Viper 790xv

hehe what I'm saying is... I have NOTHING in my car other than what was put there by the factory... ok maybe some gum..

Same here...but that will soon change.

However, I plan to leave the stock head unit...Aftermarket heads are the first thing thieves look for and its in plain sight at all times. Flip faces don't fool anyone....cause everyone knows that new cars come with stereos, the flip face would only work if you had a single din stock head, and a flip face aftermarket installed right under it. Then the thief would think the flip face was a cd holder. . .and 90% of people keep their detatchable face in their glovebox or under their seat so that doesn't stop all thieves either.

What will stop thieves (well smarter ones that would be more successfull and know their equipment) is the Eclipse ESN and cd-key. It is essentially low-jack for your head-unit. First, once the head looses power, it requires you to insert a specific cd (you choose this the first time you use it) before it will work. Second, it has a homing device inside so if it is stolen, or your car is stolen, it can be activated and recovered. The Eclipse ESN (eclipse security network) has been around for a while, and your head unit blinks like an alarm LED so it will stop all but the dumbest thieves. For them, Eclipse provides a little window sticker, if they know how to read.

Alarms are mainly a deterent for the casual thief and non-professional thievies. If a professional car thief is targeting your car, he will get it. Simplest way is to flatbed it out of there. Ther eis no way to completely protect you car from break-ins and theft, you just make it as damned inconvient and difficult as possible so that the thief decides it's not worth their time.

Yes, the flat-bed technique always works...but our cars will be stolen for parts...flat-bedding will probably be used by the professionals that are looking for exotic sports cars. A Mazda Protege won't be on their list of profitably cars to steal.

If someone wants your car, they'll get it. Alarms will protect the casual theif and Lo-Jack or ESN will get your car back after it has been stolen. My theory is, don't keep anything personal in your car (jewelry and irreplaceable things) and insure everything else such as your audio equipment so if it does get stolen, you can just go and buy new stuff and have the insurance company pay for it.

Well you also have to remember that if you catch the guy becuaase the shock sensor on the Viper 790 gave you a page, grab your .44 and you will be the proud new owner of a rig with flat a bed.

What do you think about the tilt sensors, or the microwave generators that alert you to movement inside your car?

Basicly shock sensors and proc sensors. both are useful, procs only if you leave the windows down.
Shock sensors will detect a jack or pull from a truck.

we have 2 cars with viper 800 alarms (remote start)
1 with the old school 300esp and have never had a problem with our keypads except for the regular changing of the batteries....
