vibration above 80 mph

Guys,

Any of you have this problem or do i need a wheel balancing? I only have 8 000km on the car, i thought balancing wheels were only needed around 15 k or so.

I did a search and found there's dynamic balancing (weights on both sides) and static balancing (weights on the inside). I've only got weights on the inside. Can this be causing it?

Also, will the dealership say "your not supposed to be going that fast"?

i would have to tell them to kiss my ass here, the speed limit is 75...but no, tell them to kiss your ass if they tell you that

The dealership can't complain about your speed...but I would say it's probably your balancing, just go get an alignment/balancing job from the dealership, they should be fine with it. I had my old P5 do that before I traded it for my MSP, Think back, did you hit any curbs(going over it from the road, or going off it from above) or hit any big potholes, train tracks etc., anything can set off your balance and alignement, so just check it, it can't hurt.

you just need 1 or more tires balanced. Sometimes weights will fall off the wheel at speed and then cause vibration the faster you go, because the wheel wants to wobble, being heavier on one side than the other. Just get em rebalanced =)

i have the same problem...it bugs the living s*** out of me...and when i hit 100+ is the worst ever, and sense my roters are warped(chasing WRX's and STi's down a canyon) its the same way when im braking...just need some $$$ for brembos

It's balancing. Get your tires balanced first, if the problem persists then get an alignment. You'll just spend more money for something you don't need. I've had that shake twice, and it was fixed after a balancing.

is this covered by the warranty? (balancing - alignment)
If the Canadian warranty is similar to the US' I think it should be since he's under 19,300Km (about 12,000 miles).
Under 12,000 miles, adjustments (I don't have the book with me right now to get into details) are under warranty and I would think balancing could be one of those.

I had this problem on mine as well. I had the dealer do the balancing (and they did raise eyebrows when I told them how fast you had to go to feel it--but whatever), but it didn't fix it. I had another place do it a bit later, and they actually DID fix it. In fact, I could even see where they moved one of the weights an inch or so. But the dealer did it for free for me--just wish they had fixed it the first time.

I figure, there are certain places that allow you to go 80+mph, and I expect the car to be able to handle that speed. That's really not so unreasonable.

I'll bring it in next week. I have to get the moonroof trim changed since its rubbing on the metal of the roof. I suppose it needs to be aligned.

I'll have fun with the dealer, I'll say "it starts vibrating at 110 mph and at 130 its unbearable!"

I had the same problem and my first instinct was to have the tires rotated and balanced. Although, after I did this the problem was still there so I decided to take it to the dealer to check out the alignment and suspension. They informed me that the steel belts in one of my Dunlops were separating and to take it back to the tire shop. They confirmed the problem and ordered me a new tire. It should be here within the next couple days and I'll be sure to post whether or not it actually fixed the original problem.

I think thats my problem. I did hit big pothole with it once and its been viabrating ever since.

I brought it in and they balanced my tires and sent me on my way. Instead of viabrating at 75 it now viabrates at 80. ( Its not a huge vibration - just annoying - i mean i just bought it in march, i shouldn't have to put up with this)

I'll bring it in again next week and suggest them its a defective tire.

Also, my steering wheel keeps shifting around when i hit bumps - which is probably related to a defective tire as well.

i balance tires for a living. haha. nah on 16's its not good to put weights only on the inside. i dont know why but anything above 16 is ok, anything at or below is bad. =\
