hey guys, i recently tinted my taillights with vht nighshade but i find it looks bad on my car and i was wondering if you knew any simple ways to remove it without sanding or buffing the lights?

maybe paint thinner but idk if that would do anything to the light itself. best way is to just wet sand it

I have heard if you paint it over again with night shade it moistens the paint and can be wiped away.

If that is the end result in your avatar then dang, very dark. A very light coating is all thats needed. I have some I am going to redo and it so happens I have a new can of night shade to try it. They are very lightly tinted so I may just wet sand them down as there was a run on one of them when I got them.

sweet baby jesus, like 2 layers is alot and it looks like you did 8. hahha, if a cop feels like being a douche he can give a ticket for it so yea take that off son

I think the shades only look nice on darker colors but that's only imo. I have vht my rear lights and my cars a midnight blue. Looks fine imo. (I also left the two white circle on the tail lights white w.o tinting them.)

Pretty much have to go the sanding / buffing route unfortunately.. Try some acetone first, but make sure you remove them from the car. Also try a test spot, Ive had acetone react different ways with different plastics.

Acetone will eat through most cheap plastics and hard plastics
Polyurethane is resistant to most acids
I think polyurethane has a triangle or a square on it

lol yeah thats my car, was the first job i ever did to a car im only 17 its badass but way too dark and i dont like the black and yellow contrast

you'll be able to get it off there and have glorious looking tails in about 2 hours, if you:

1.) remove the tail light assemblies
2.) get to scrubbing with some wetsand paper, until you see the deep red color of the plastic (you'll also see the darker layers of the nightshades as it's coming off)
3.) run over the entire thing with rubbing compound with a buffer
4.) finish wax

That's what I've found works best - takes about an hour per light.

I have a pair of clean original P5 tails I will sell you if it doesn't work out. They are in perfect condition and have been in my closet for about 2 years.

Goof off will take it off (I used a scotchbrite pad to help) but its pretty strong so you need to mask off all other areas.

I used intake cleaner on mine before (Previous owner did a terrible job and didnt let them dry) to get the tint off...

Sprayed it directly on the lense, let it sit for 5 seconds, and you can practically blow the paint off.

i took it off tails before with laquer thinner. soaked a rag in it, laid it over the light and let it sit for 5 minutes, then rubbed it all off. took an hour total including removing the light housings from the car. this was 4 coats of nightshades and 2 coats of clearcoat.

ive tinted mine like 3 times i used gas to remove almost wipes right off, but you'll need to buf them to get it shiny again or clear coat, i at the end did one coat to give it a smoke look vs. the blackout, plus the dmv send me a letter saying that was my warning, even though i got pulled over and the cop didn't even mention it nor my limo tint..

why would anyone recommend wet sanding, or sanding at all. watch the youtube video and you can have them clean in an hour. its the simplest and easiest way.

i used gas, worked pretty well but i think the vht cracked my taillights because there are some major cracks in the lights after removing it. Gas works pretty well comes right off

Too many people use this stuff like it's spray paint...it isn't. You have to use VERY LIGHT COATS, and give them time to flash in between. So light that you will hardly be able to tell you've sprayed it on at all until maybe your 3rd pass. If you want it to have that wet polished glossy look afterward, wet sand it with 2000g and wax it. It can look really sharp.

Shoot you dont even have to sand or wax it after you paint. You can polish it out with Meguires Plastx or Rubbing Compound. I have done this several times and the results have always been great.
