VERY Offended!!!!!

Alright let me vent! I changed my brakes ( brembo ventilated rotors and Hawk HPS pads on all fours ) for my 2003 Protege5 about 3 months ago.

Now I've been noticing squeaking/grinding, so I took it in Monday. Only to find that the front calipers were about to seize and that they needed to change. Problem the ENTIRE time was that the guide pins (cheap metal pieces that the pad sits on the caliper) were making the pads stick. Apparently those needed to be changed along with the whole brake change? Now who's fault is it!?! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Yeah those don't come with pads when you buy them, I wish they had because mine are kinda crappy and I think my rear ones might get stuck because of that.

you can always put a small amount of grease to lube it up. Did thaton backing plates for vw bugs for years no problem.

So you did it yourself and you think someone else is to blame... :bs:

Ya, I don't get why you're offended. We all make mistakes, just be glad that this is a very minor one.

Along with what other folks have already said, I'll add the fact that Hawk HPS pads do make a bit of noise. It's just the nature of the beast.

LOL..this is funny. To answer your question...it was YOUR fault.

lol noo it wasnt!!! I PAID my mechanic to do the job. I NEVER touched the brakes on the car, I don't even have the tools to take off the wheel, nevermind the brake parts haha next time I'm gonna go with oem s*** and thats it, no more fun. Dealer apparently sells the guide pins for $75, just for the front on one side, its crazy!!!!(shocked)

IF you asked your mechanic to change the rotors and pads and not inspect or lube the rest of the brakes system then thats your fault. If you asked him to do all that and he didn't then its his fault. Either way if he inspected the slider pins 3months ago he would have likely replaced them, so your still out the same $$ whethers its 3months ago or now.

At the end of the day its still a car, car's need things fixed when you least expect it. I bought new drilled/slotted rotors and KVR pads just the other week assuming it would be a simple brake job, but turns out my rear calipers had seized pistons and the fronts were not too far behind, so $430 later I have new calipers to go along with new rotors and pads, and now to top it off I finished everything last night at 9:30 only to find I'm out of brake fluid and still have air in the lines.

It's the inner piston of the caliper that seizes. This would be at no fault to anyone other than a poorly manufactured part. Unless of course brake fluid is not checked and or replaced. If your guides are rusted then simply have them replaced, otherwise they can be greased.

Hmmm, interesting, I have same setup & yes the pads made noise until bedded in with the rotors but none since & no problems with guide pins either. Must be a road salt never washy the car thing or something cause I've enjoyed over 45k with no problems whatsoever & still have about 1/3 of the pads left & I did all my s*** myself. Never pay some else to **** something up that you can **** up yourself much cheaper I guess. But if you do it yourself then there is no one else to blame. Crap! What are you to do?

yeah my car's making a weird horrid noise... i got some stuff checked on only a few months back and now its making some crazy noises. sounds like the right axle is loose or the strut mount is loose... i dunno i checked all the bolts that connect stuff together to see if that was the problem.
damn it i might as well have bought the parts and done it myself

yeah cars are CRAPPP , I want the new audi A6, who's got 75,000 grand they can give me?

those guide pins should've been greased up real good. your mechanic should've known to do that.
