Hey everyone! First time poster here. Been enjoying reading through the community, and it seems like a great place.
I'm very interested in getting a Protege5, as I think they're a pretty incredible blend of practicality, reliability and fun-factor, not to mention looks. But I guess I don't have to convince anyone on here of their merits, now do I?
I was initially looking long and hard for a 2002-2003 Civic siR (Canadian, that's the Euro-style 3-door Si for the yankees), but there are none on the market in Vancouver/Victoria right now, and I need a vehicle pronto. I'm currently at school in Montreal, so can't check anything out myself, but I will be having my dad do the test driving and inspection, and getting our mechanic in Victoria to fully go over it.
Anyhow, he'll be taking a look at this beauty tomorrow. 2nd owner, 82,000km's (around 51,000 miles) no accidents, never smoked in, CARFAX on request, and I think the rest is in the ad. Middle aged female owner getting rid of it for family reasons. It certainly looks CLEAN and pristine in the ad, and the seller profile is appealing.

The asking price is steep, however, at 9000 CAD. Beyond what I want to pay, really, and far above kbb or the VMR Canada suggested prices for the mileage and condition. I'm thinking it would be more appropriate around 8000-8200, no? Hoping she'll budge on the price.
Generally how accurate is kbb or any of the other value prediction sites? It seems like they're often far under what the market seems to be going for.
Anyhow, what are your guys thoughts? Is it worth ponying up some extra cash for something that (seems to be) in such good condition? Obviously inspection will tell, but it seems to be essentially perfect. And the Laser Blue... so sexy.
Anyhow, sorry if this post is a bit long. Any input is most appreciated!
*edit* Prices for pro5's are generally a bit higher in Canada than the US, from what I can tell after lots of online comparisons. And apparently they're a bit higher again in BC, particularly the coast. No rust as we have no winter, roads are pretty smooth, etc. So bear that in mind. This one is higher priced than some of the other pro5's in the area, but none have quite as low km's, and none look as clean. As a comparison, there's another 2003 going for 7500 with 133,000km's (82,600 miles or so). If I could get this one for somewhere around 8000 CAD, I think it would be pretty fair. Thoughts?
Cheers,
Ben
