Valentine One Radar Detector?

hey I was thinking about the Beltronics Vector 990 not the Passport, anyone use the Vector? It's little bit more expensive, but quite good in reviews

I don't think it's good as the Passport 8500, or even the V1. Plus it cost's to $MUCH.:(

The reason why you guys can't pick up police air planes is because they don't use radar. If you look at the side of the freeway you'll see markers at certain intervals. I don't know if they are miles, 1/4 miles or what not. The police simply count how many of these markers you pass at a certain time to determine your speed. I have a co-worker who works for the CHP and he explained the whole thing to me.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention. This was very helpful to me, especially since I'm in the market for a radar detector. So do these only let you know when a cop is near if he/she is clocking you, or does it simply tell you there is a cop near?

they normally check for active radar signals, whether they are aimed at you or not

Cool, thanks for the info. I didn't realize they don't use radar at all for that. I saw the markings but didn't really know what they were for (thought it maybe marked the area they were watching or something).

I knew they didn't use radar, but it would still be cool if we could. Maybe we should use small SAM's (Surface to Air Missle on them. hehe :)

Actually, you could pick them up if your car had a radar on it. But I don't think that having a dome on the roof would look too sporty :P

eh, with the size of those ricer GT wings, you could just get one and turn it into a dish

Hey guys, I've been searching for some of these detectors on the internet and thier like over $300!! Yikes!! I went on Ebay and found some Escort S2's or something like that. They were all $270 each, there were also some cobra's for about $50 and under, but I'm trying to stay with the V-1's or Escort 8500's. Does anyone know where to get these for cheaper than $300?

I'm not sure about the Passport, but the V1 comes with a guarantee that they'll pay for your ticket. Of course, if you get ticketed while using the V1, you must not have been paying any attention to the V1.

Hey guys, after reading this stuff I decided to buy a radar detector!! I went with the Escort Passport 8500 and I even got the smart cord-direct wire too. I got a really good deal from www.cartoys.com I paid $280.00 total. When you visit the website, they'll offer 15% off and the shipping is free!! I couldn't find a good price for the Valentine-1 and most of the conusmer reports recommended the Escort over the Valentine. Just my .02!

Cool, it's nice to see that someone actually benefited from the information provided in this post. I'm still a little torn between the 2 detectors. I like the V1 a whole lot because of the fact that it tells you where the source is coming from which is a good, but I also like the idea of possibly saving over $100 by going with the Passport. I never knew the Passpport was right there with the V1. I have a lot of friends that swear by the V1 too.

That is the only real reason why people buy the V1 over the escort passport 8500. I like both radar's and have had experience with the V1, "But overall the Escort 8500 is the better way to go and it's cheaper 2. IMO;)

I just rode in my brothers car and he has a 8500. I didn't realize it until I really looked. I noticed the car adapter has a remote led so you have to look at the radar detecter. Pretty cool I guess. But the one thing that I missed from my radar was not knowing where the radar was coming from. We didn't know if we passed the radar and also, it doesn't tell you how many different signals are being picked up. The V1 actually posts the number pf bogeys or signals it picks up and flash the strongest signal. Really cool stuff. When I was driving home in my car, the V1 picked up a signal coming from behind me. It just wouldn't go away, so immediately slowed down to speed limit and the signal was getting stronger. Those of you without a V1 would be looking ahead trying to find the cop sitting on the side but won't realize that the cop was driving up behind you and low and behold there he was and drove by me. I guess you really won't know what you are missing until you've tried the V1. Once you go V1, you won't go back. My thoughts anyway.

Accually, the Passport 8500 does tell you how many signals you have (depending on what mode you have it in), but does not tell you where. Another cool feature about the 8500 that I personally like is the built in volt meter. When it's not picking up the fuzz, it's telling you your voltage, and alarms you when it's low (like time for a battery change!!(thumb) One less gauge to buy IMHO!

Yeah I knew a couple of guys in that crew back when I frequented the street races. They are the most organized crew I've seen over the years I was out there and they conducted themselves in a mature manner even though they were street racing which can be seen as being immature by some. For a while, they were the fastest crew in the immediate may area and all of them were all motor.
I remember when the street races were the place to be for gear heads in out area. We were able to gather some pretty big crowds

Cool, Also i was watching a 360M DVD video, about all kind of import stuff and they were on there. Most of them are turboed. They look pretty mean, and most of the car's i saw were 95-99 Integra's. I watched a video of a civic Hatch smoke a Mustang GT modified.;) They do look pretty fast though. Do you still (KIP) keep in touch with them at all????

Nah, not really. I grew out of going to the street races after Johnny Law kept stopping me. The yellow car attracts too much attention at the street races which is no suprise to me.
