So all we've been hearing about in terms of swaps are the MSP and rotary dream swaps in a p5.

Honestly, I am totally impressed with the Nissan 3.5L VQ35DE Engine. Whats the likelyhood of being able to swap one of these into the mazda?
Granted, I am willing to give up AC, relocated crucial items, and use nissan cluster.

Any thoughts?

A Mazda6 possibly if you had the money. A P5 though? I dont even know if it would fit...And not sure if FWD would be possible.

Hmmm... Mount the engine in the rear, so it's MR, and use a Nissan Maxima gearbox. Easy! =) It'd be the equivilant of the Renault Clio V6. ;) Rockin'.

'Course, in either case, you'll have to have custom springs made for the front and read... But then, that'd be the least of your worries in trying to jam that big 'ol VQ engine into the compact Mazda frame.

why don't you just go FI...will be cheaper then having a nissan motor put into our engine bay...which is already kind of small for that motor..

don't they use the same basic engine in the altima 3.5?
Is the Altima FWD? I didn't think it was...I don't pay attention to them though.(dunno) The question still remains, why even waste the money on it though. Just go buy something better.

Buy a 510 and cram the VQ into that.

I've seen RG36DET's in 510s and it's the s***. Either that or a 240z (like that one with the 455 Chevy Rat crammed into it).

What about the Ford/Mazda V6 that was used in the Probe/MX-6? Sure, it's no VQ, but damn....

You'd may as well buy a Nissan and call it a day (I'm more fond of the 5th Gen Maxipads, though they came with the 3.0L).

My reasons for wanting to do something like this:

My car has about half value now, one year later, down from 17 to about 9k.

It costs a rediculous amount of money for me to keep it on the road (insured) and yet, I still manage to modify it. My car is one off.

Whats more one off than this mod?

If he's running 13's in a non built 240whp car @ 31-3200lbs, imagine what this can do in a p5.

He's running near 50k miles now and pushes the car to an extreme and has no problems to date. I mean literally, what can go wrong?

The thought of hiboost turbo with forged internals is definetly sweet, but this idea much more floats my boat. I know the upfront cost would be considerably higher than a turbo, but little or no maintenance and upgrades required to keep it chugging strong.

I saw the motor on ebay for $672 w/ 10k miles.

short and skinny, I can't sell the car and take that much of a hit.

nearly 8 grand a year to insure.

I like my car, its just rediculously slow

when you are swapping that motor into a p5, you will DEFINATELY need some kind of maintenince, trust me...theres lots of s*** that can go wrong(tranny, custom motor mounts you will need, etc...), you are going to need lots of custom parts, and cutting metal under the engine bay will most likely be involved(which will drop the price of your car alot more)

Goddamn; $8k to insure (I'm not going to ask)

If I were you, I'd wait on any further mods and live the humble life for a while until you pay this thing off and were fiscially in better shape or sell it out right (not a trade) via a private sale. One way or another, you'll take a hit.

If you want a money pit, go with the VQ swap; you'll have more issues to contend with in the long run (and end up with a vehicle that won't be worth anything on the "regular" market).

It's up to you, of course.

I've seen Oldsmobile 4.0L Aurora engines shoe-horned into goddamn Fiero's, so this may not be that big of a difference.

I'd stay in the same "family" though - Ford, Mazda, Volvo, etc......
