USDM or ADM

JDM is hot right now. With that, no one can argue. Many members, myself included love the clean simplicity of true JDM cars and their American bought cousins who try to look like them.

But, as I was laying in bed, trying to convince my body to ignore all the Mountain Dew and go to sleep, it occured to me. I wonder if there are any Japanese auto. enthusiasts who try to make their JDM vehicles resemble their USDM/ADM equivalents.

I know most peoples answer will be a resounding "No!" But, let's think about this. The JDM craze in the US started as a way to make your car different from all of the other sticker clad 2F2F wannabes. It started with simple things like switching a Miata's badges to the Eunos Roadsters, or buying wheels and body kits previously only available in Japan, etc.

So, I started thinking. Maybe there are guys in Japan who rebadge their Honda Integras with Acura logos or mabey some kid with a Familia orders the 03.5 MSP lip and spolier combo. It would be the same as JDM was for us, only reversed. A way to make their car stand out from those next to it.

Any thoughts? I want to see what others think about this.

Yeah, they do have some people that try to make their cars like the us counterparts. There was a link in a thread somewhere, to a site in japan where you could buy protege5 badges, and all the other assorted trimmings.

hehe, I remember reading somewhere that the Chevy Astro van has a cult-like following in Japan. Why? Because it's so damn American. With this train of thought, I'd say yes, there probably are people in Japan looking for protege5 badges. :)

Yeah, I meant to mention something along those lines. In many ways the Japanese have been big buyers of Americana. I remember in the early 90's at the peak of athletic shoe mania, I read that Japanese were buying Nike Air Jordans for like $600 to $1000 for a used pair. (The irony being that the shoes were all made in some part of Asia, but the buyers wanted pairs that were sold in the US originally.)

Also the dude that started APC made his initial money by building the big mural clad, shag interior type Ford Ecoline and Chevy full size vans that were popular in the late 70's and then shipping them over to Japan where there was a huge market that started up in the late 80's. Only a decade too late. lol.
