USB Stick Play

2016.5 Mazda CX-5 GT
I've seen a number of posts regarding problems remembering previous track position when playing back from a flash drive. I'm using software version 59.00.441. After starting the car the "I Agree" screen appears. If I tap the command stick once only, or if I do not tap the command stick and drive in reverse, when audio comes on play resumes on last track playing when the car had been shut down. If I tap the command stick more than once, or if I do not tap the command stick and drive forward, play starts on the first track on the USB stick. If I shut down the car after the end of a track but before the next track starts, I think but I'm not certain, that play may start with the first track on the flash drive when I restart the car. If I screw it up and play starts on the first track, I turn shuffle off, advance to the next track a few times, and turn shuffle back on. If I'm still in a recognizable sequence, I repeat the advance with shuffle off and retry. essentially reseeding the random number generator.

Just curious, do you have any songs in the root directory?

No. I have 28 folders. Each folder holds from 1 to 4 cd's or up to 4 subfolders, corresponding to cd albums, with 1 or more cd's. It's a 16 gb flash drive with 10.66 gb of music. When I first tried the USB player function, I was using a 64 gb flash drive with ~45 gb of music on it. At that time I had the previous version of the cx-5 os. I broke my music collection into 5 flash drives because it took the infotainment system too long to register the contents of the large single drive. The breakdown works for me because I can select 2 general music genres, each on it's own stick. Right now I've got my Big Band & Jazz stick and my Pop, Rock, & Folk stick mounted. In a week or so, I'll swap in my Xmas stick.

The reason that I asked about songs in the root directory is because in my VW's system (not a USB flash drive but a 32 gb SD card) if I don't put at least one song in the root directory the system doesn't work as expected. But with just one song in the root everything works just as it should.
