Well I brought my car to get fixed.. to a guy who swore he could fix it. Basically I was having a rod knocking pretty bad, and he said it was probably a damaged rod bearing. So I bring it to him and now he can't even find parts for the car (probably because he's a moron.. he quoted me $5500 to have a 2.3L motor put in because apparently thats all he could find? I'm guessing it was a mazda 3 motor and it won't even bolt up... but he's just an idiot) He told me he called the Mazda dealer and they told him they don't sell parts for the car because the engine wasn't made for a turbo.. which I know that our engines are crap but since when can't you get parts for it? So basically the question is.. WTF DO I DO?! My car is now taken apart.. not totally sure what's wrong with it, but he's saying it can be fixed with "probably a crank kit and new rod" but he said he can't warrenty it. So.. basically this is my 2nd motor that has gone bad at 36k miles, and I still don't know what's causing the problem. We thought maybe the turbo was messed up.. but he said its fine. Any ideas/options/advice would be greatly appreciated at this point.. I need to get my car fixed asap.. but I don't want it breaking down again asap.

i would go there, collect all the parts belonging to your car.......put everthing in the trunk and tow the car out of there as fast as you can.........tow it home if u have to.......then find a decent shop that actually knows what they're talking about...

wow, yes, leave that mechanic asap...why he told Mazda it was a 2.3 is retarded...do not let him touch your car.

two motors have gone bad that quick? What r u boosting? Get a new motor from protegegarage if anything.

if he tried to put a 2.3 in later than 2005 i think, the ecu would not support it. you can always find parts for the motor. look for yourself and buy the parts and then have them installed. most importantly, do not let him do the work.

bump.. any other ideas?

Here is my suggestion:
Go to a junk yard and find a regular protege 2.0 FS motor. Last year, I blow my motor on dyno. I paid $300 for the motor. Its a direct replacement, so you dont have to buy any extra parts.

P.S. if you have extra money, buy the forge motor.

I paid $700.00 for a used engine complete from Oil pan to Cam Cover, Intake Mani to Ex Mani. Complete with ignition coils.

Your Dude is a Dumb Car Dude. Tractors are probably more what he is used to.

Buy a Used Engine.
Buy Pistons and Rods
Take it to an actual engine shop.
