Upgrading tires

I currently have the 6i with tires 205/60/16. I am going to upgrade to a 17inch rim and tire combo, but I was wondering which would be better tire- 215/45/17 or 215/50/17 if I don't want any further issues with fender rubbing. The rim I am getting has an offset of +42mm. I am hoping to have no troubles with rubbing because I have stock suspension and haven't rolled the fenders. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Also, which tire would would be better- Pirelli PZero's or Nitto Neogens- any opinions?

if you are on stock suspension i really can't see how you would rub with either size of those tires on 17's...

You should get Toyo tires instead, and either size will fit but the P215/45 17 is slightly smaller.

215/50/17 on a 17x7 with a +42 offset is pretty close to the fender lip. If you want to ensure you won't rub, push it up to a +48 offset.

Remember everyone that a Mazda 6 has a stock rim of 17x7 +60 offset. Dropping to a +42 is a pretty big change.

225/45/17 with +42 does rub. 215/50/17 "shouldn't".

As for tires. If you want performance, I'd go with either...

1) Toyo T1-S
2) Falken Azenis Sports
3) Kumo MX

If your rich...

4) Toyo RA-1's and replace them every 10k.

If your looking for all seasons...

1) Toyo Proxy4's
2) Falken ZIEX-512's.

crossbow...wasn't it posted somewhere people managed to rub with the stock 17's under some conditions?

Both of those sizes are going to mess up your speedometer.

You will need to go with a 215/50-17 tire.

You shouldn't rub either because the entire thing is still smaller than the stock wheel and tire.

Later(wrc)
isn't 215/45-17 the stock size for the 17's

Stock size is 215/50/17 (for 17's). No I haven't heard of anyone rubbing with a stock configuartion...Now bottoming out, thats entirely different.

I have 225/45/17s with +42 with no rubbing. AND they're falken azenis 225s.. which is closer to a normal 235.
Bill...it doesn't rub because you rolled your fenders...

Which should be considered common knowledge when playing with offsets and tire sizes. I figure it's akin to "your engine doesn't starve because you have fuel in the tank"

The king of bitter gives humankind far too much credit. Next thing you know, you'll be expecting people to look both ways before crossing the street, or actually reading disclaimers...or learning how to use the shift key instead of just pressing caps lock.

What next bill?? Do you expect people to learn how to use turn signals? Drive fast in the fast lane??? When does it END!!!!

I do give people too much credit.. and for some reason I'm always surprised when they let me down:(

Yes.. my 225/45/17 tires with 42 offset don't rub, and I've rolled my fenders. I also remembered to add air to the tires, change my oil, and obey traffic laws. For my next trick, I'll get out of the left lane when a faster vehicle is approaching....

faster vehicle...would that be Pg county and maryland state(lol)? I was doin like 80-85 and hapened to see a slew of cars behind me....3 seconds later they started merging right. As soon as they passed I gave them like 6 car spaces and folowed the convoy till my exit came up :). The real issue is to get people to actuly use the hands free set! then after that teach them suvs roll over! its raining cats and dogs a people with 4wd suv's think they have slammed STI's and make turns inpossible for them to pull off in dry weather and now they are on the side of the road upside down facing you! also at the autocross sunday that none of you guys attended a guy was driving maybe 30-40mph in a pos acclaim and decided to make a rapid right turn into the white fence along the roadway 3 cars down from us. Dude was DUI and could barely stand. his frend got him out of the driver seat...picked the fence back up and drove off!
