Unichip and Cobb are different set ups.. Cobb makes power with you mods unichip makes much more power on a stock ms6??
SU posts 50+ hp gains?? with unichip that's there claim not mine.. And the trouble is it isn't as adjustable..
Cobb claims 15hp gains with there tuning on a non stock car..
So if you believe the numbers the unichip "makes" more power especially for a stock set up..
The "tunes" and connections are different on these units.. I'm not making any claims myself just what I've read..
Yeah, no offense intended, but you're just regurgitating marketing hype and not even accurately. I'm not trying to sound condescending, but please allow me to expound on tuning and devices.
The UniChip is a simple piggyback device just like the Xede, Standback, and any other piggyback, add-on tuner. It works by intercepting the crank position(timing), MAF sensor(air mass), MAP sensor(manifold pressure), and sometimes the pedal position, alters those signals and sends them on to the ECU to TRY and "trick" the ECU into outputing the desired result.
These type devices work well enough for what they are, but suffice to say the UniChip CAN NOT alter the ECU logic tables, boost or fuel cut levels, open/closed loop switching points, or closed loop AFRs and fuel trims. When you alter the sensor signals to get the desired timing, AFR, or boost level you ALSO change other results from the ECU. Example, when you alter the MAF signal, you may get the desired AFR, but the ECU uses the MAF to calculate Load and to schedule other operations which will be altered as well. Some of these undesired results are detonation, closed loop when the ECU should be in open loop, etc.
The UniChip harness must be spliced into the ECU harness or use an hardwire installed adapter harness. The UniChip must stay installed into the car to perform the signal modifications real-time. If your UniChip malfunctions, your car may simply stop running, or it could cause an actual engine failure.
The software to change the intercepted signal outputs is proprietary to UniChip and their "authorized" service outlets. This fact is ridiculous and by itself makes the UniChip the WORST possible choice for a tuning device.
This post is running too long, so I'll not go into the advantages of a reflash device other than to say it has NONE of the piggyback problems plus it CAN change all the things the piggyback can't. Suffice to say that at this point, the Cobb ACCESSPort is the ONLY reflash device available for the Speed 3/6 series. You buy the device once and ALL the tuning software and subsequent updates is FREE, along with several off-the-shelf tunes that work well in most geographic locations.
The bottom line is that even on a completely stock car, the reflash device is the BEST option. The ONLY device that could be considered as "better" is a complete aftermarket ECU referred to as a "standalone ECU". In this case, you toss your OEM ECU into the trash and replace it with a fully customizable ECU.
