Underdrive Pully

Just installed my UD pully and indigo pully set today. Has anyone else noticed the motor being a bit louder with the new ud pully? Like a light tapping noise? We didn't see it rubbing anywhere and the car idles fine. The plate was tight on the pully too. The only thing we could think of is the reduced mass was not absorbing the vibrations the same as the heavy stock pully.

No CEL when we fired it up. No CEL after resetting the ECU. Been driving on it for like 20 miles so far and it has been fine.

I dont have the Indigo set, but my UR underdrive pulley makes some noises as well. Mine seems to whistle a little, and I do get the pinging sound you speak of. I'm not too worried about it though. I have almost 1000 miles on mine and it feels great. Much better low end.

its probably fine, i did notice the motor was slightly louder but with my exhaust and intake its hard to tell anyways. I didnt notice the tapping though

I have probably 7000 miles on mine and no real issues. I have some AWR motor mounts that produce vibrations and rattles so I can't tell.

Ya, butt dyno says low end the car likes to pull more. Going up certain hills doesn't make me downshift like I used to.

I have been eyeing one of these for a while. I have Injen CAI and some Tsudo headers but looking for something just a little bit more.
few questions...
what kind of gain did you get with it?

how does the pulley affect balancing the engine?

also, ac still cold and plenty of power for thoes aftermarket sound systems?

I have not hit the dyno yet to get any numbers. You can tell there is something more freed up.

I can defiantly tell that the lightened pulley doesn't absorb the vibrations of the crank like the stocker. I guess I should have expected that with the huge difference in weight.

My AC is still cold and power is fine (I notice no change and run a carputer).

I did run into some belt squeal. Basically drove like 100 miles on the belts and had to re-tighten both. When you buy new belts You can get a 1/2 size smaller (then what is listed) for the Power Steering belt. There is like 1cm left adjustment on the one I purchased and I am 1/4 size smaller then what was listed on unorthodox's site. I bought dayco belts which tend to stretch more then other brands I have used.

Let me know if you ever hit the dyno...

Im curious to know if the lack of being balanced causes more wear and tear on the engine. While I would like some more power, I also want to keep the car till I can pay off student loans and get a morgage going or something.

One more question, how does it affect the MPG?
Thanks for the input!

The battery voltage, according to my windshield mounted Passport 8500 x50 radar detector, displays readings in the mid to high 13s and low 14s when the car is running.

There are numerous threads regarding the balancing of the engine and the udp. As far as Ive gathered from everything Ive read our engines are internally balanced and the udp shouldnt cause a problem unless your boosted in which case it can cause many more problems.

Well I guess the flywheel might a little more "balance-related" than the underdrive pulley... ;)

yea, im not boosted. so if I cant just find out what it does to gas mileage I will figure out what I am doing soon.
Thanks!

Better gas mileage if you granny it, but who grannies it when they add a HP increasing mod? It doesn't affect the balance of the motor. I still get enough battery juice for everything including my subs and the A/C still blows cold. No I haven't hit the dyno but I will be hitting the track soon. And about the vibrations... well I have a SLS front motor mount so things already vibrate. Anything else?

Actually, there is one more thing, it looks like there is enough room, but do you have to pull the motor to access and install it? I know you have to do that in the civics, or so Im told.

to install the pulley no, its an extremely simple install, I think my brother in law and I did it in a shop in about 20 minutes

The only thing you have to pull is the right front wheel:) Easier than the header install IMO.

sweet...

thats all I need to know now.
Thanks for the info man! Im really tempted now to get one :)

Thanks again!(drinks)
