Underbody Surface Rusting

Well, I looked under my car the other day, and I saw some surface rusting on some parts. I need to get some pictures of it, but the subframe has some surface rusting and it kind of makes me sad. The car is only a year old and this makes me angry.

So my question is does the car have a warranty that pertains to this. I thought while buying it they mentioned something. But before I go into the stealership and complain, I wana do some research.

I have one of those rust modules on my car and so far no rust on the underbody. I doubt they would cover it as it would be considered normal wear and tear.

id say its going to be a diy job. nice wash...and some of the undercarriage protectant spray. its heavy, expensive, and id much rather have some surface rust. honeslty...cars now dont rust like they used to. lot more plastic and such. i say wash the wheel wells really well to prevent rusting there and same for other well known spots. add some extra coats of wax and keep it clean of salt and sand. winter sucks.

My cars been through one Michigan winter so far with no rust. If you look at Mazdas warranty dont they warranty against rust for 5yr/100,000 miles? Most companies do these days. I'm not sure how that would work, just a suggestion.

1 year in New England and the underside of mine is still clean. I would clean it up get some rust inhibitor and give that a go!

Warranty is for rust perforation, as in rust through, with a hole through the metal. surface rust is not covered, and will not affect the strength of the metal.

i can attest with plenty of written and photographic proof, that one major manufacturer (nissan) will not cover your vehicle EVEN IF it rusts completely through (7 year rust through warranty MY ASS)... i had them document it from the first time i saw it rusting there.... 'we can't do anything until it rusts through'...

a month later, rust through..... 'sorry, we aren't going to cover it, tough luck' ask xterra owners about this. around the roof rack, and tailgate. total rust through...

i loved that truck, but nissan will never get my money again.

not saying mazda is the same, but i wouldn't count on them to cover any rust issues. it's just glossy sales jabber.

get out the rustoleum 'hammerite'.....

i guess it depends on what type of rust here. if your talking flaking, peeling, cant get a socket on rust...you have a problem afetr a year. if your talking brown but still rigid then its normal winter surface rust....no biggie. clean it up and blast it quick with some rustoleum.

Yea I need to get a hold of my buddy who works at a honda dealer, this way we can put it up on the lift and see what we're dealing with and get it cleaned up. Maybe do a preventative spray on some parts. I take pictures and s*** when I go ahead and do it up

I'm in New Jersey & I saw a little rust after about a year on the underside of the car at the rear. I think it was on the chasis. I wire brushed and painted it black. I think it is normal in my area.

These cars will blow up or be ground up due to old age before any rust effects the integrity of the steel sub frame. Dont look under the car and it wont bother you.(peep)(smash)
