So I sold Ochedda his recent blown turbo (see wtb section) $375.00 shipped. It was working condition when i sold it to him with low miles, and minimal shaft play. He has had it for about a month like he has said. Now his dad is coming after me for the cost of the turbo, labor , and car rental service. He said the turbo was blowing white smoke from day one but if you look at Ochedda's post it just started this past week. Also his father sent me an email when first installed and said that everything looked good. If i was informed day one or the same week that the turbo had an issue I would have refunded his money. Now 3 or so weeks later his dad is coming after me because the turbo blew. I have offered to give him a $100 back since thats probably all the turbo is worth now that its blown. I think this is more then generous giving the time frame between the time he got it and today. Now he is shipping me back the turbo and is going after me through paypal.

Am i right or am I wrong or should he get the full $375.00 back?

His dad also told me that I over charged him for the turbo. Arent they $1000.00 new?

Concerning an automotive part, if it worked right after install, that's all you're responsible for. You have no way of knowing how or if it was maintained, if it was installed properly, what kind of oil he's using, etc etc etc. I'd be very surprised if PayPal even entertains this considering there is no warranty implied from you.

Yeah thats what i was thinking. I do feel bad about the situation since the kid has been out of a car, but I can't help that though.

Personally, I wouldn't give anything. Paypal's not going to give him his money back. And 2nd had parts are always as is.

tough s*** sounds mean but i agree with everyone else. If you didn't warranty the part who's to say the kid didn't mess up on the install. I mean besides install there is like 100 other things that could affect the part. If he knew it was used then its not your fault.

yeah i havent heard anything yet from pay pal. I dont think they would be able to do anything.

I did offer him a $100 for it so we shall see what he says. If anything ill attempt to rebuild it or give it to someone else to rebuild.

that sucks for him but i also agree with everyone else's post, personally from what i have read i think that you are being more than generous. im not really sure what the law is in ur state but in wisconsin w/o an extended warentee stated previous to the sale you are only liable for the part until it reaches ur customer. i dont think that implied warentee would cover a used part one month after install especially if he did the work himself, not by a professional. i wouldnt even be worried and wouldnt offer him anything.

3 weeks later is plenty of time for someone to destroy one of these turbos depending on what boost level he was running and how he treated it...

sorry, he deserves nothing...

Yeah, you can't be held responsible for the install and care of it once it is out of your hands.....Could have been a number of install related issues that caused the problem...or the kid just tore the s*** out of it and didn't car...

**Edit** And he seems to have an issue with blowing turbos. Definitely something else going on to cause the problem...He says the problem started after he installed the Injen CAI...So trace it back to that...

and he is 16 !!!! no offense but im pretty sure he probably just got his car and is slapping things on without knowing of how they work. just like in the other post i told him to keep it stock and learn thing first before blowing things up.

let him learn his lesson dude.

Make sure you keep all emails reguarding this so you can prove you didn't send them a blown turbo. You can use it as proof that it was their fault if it ever comes to court or whatever.

i had a similar issue happen to me. i just told the guy that he bought a used item for a VERY cheap price. he got what he payed for. i mean the item was working when i took it off my car and sold it to him, just like the turbo you sold that kid. and he gave me this BS story about how its not fair that he has a broken EBC(the item i sold him).

my advice to you is, just let it go, ignore him if you have to. dont worry about the guy, cause we all know that a dog that barks doesnt bite.

Unless you sold the turbo with a warranty, I would not give them back any money. Refuse the package and forget about it.

Alright I deff feel better now. I never implied a waranty. I only said that it should work fine if installed properly.
