what?? Penn owned Hughes for the first two rounds then ran out of gas. didnt anyone tell him it was scheduled for 5 rounds, lol? i would have loved to see Penn get out of that and go to another round. but i guess it was inevitable that Hughes would win. He's an animal. but i've never seen Hughes NOT be able to take a guy down. i think it wouldve been an awesome fight if Penn was in better shape.

i wouldnt say penn owned hughes the first too...he was just really good about not letting hughes get a full mount on him....But I think the thumb hughes took in the eye really pissed him off...

but yeah...hughes is nuts...

St Pierre got in the ring, grabbed the mic from Rogan, and said: I am not impressed with your win, I will take you out(or something like that). You could tell that Hughes was furious. Then Hughes said something along the lines of "didnt I already beat you once?". then the camera went to something else, and then Rogan said "you just missed it, they had a heated exchange".

they said Penn was a last minute replacement, maybe thats why he was so out of shape. but i think i heard them say 6 weeks. that sounds like plenty of time.

I agree with the other guy - Penn was in no way dominated until he ran out of gas in the last round. He has incredible take-down defense and submission skills.....had he sunk that submission attempt about 30 seconds earlier in the 2nd round Hughes would have been done.

I'd like ot say Penn would have won if he didn't have to take the fight on 6 weeks notice but that really wouldn't be true....Penn's never had good stamina.

Penn ran out of gas like everyone has said. He dominated the first two rounds though. He doesnt have the stamina, he looks out of shaped.

Mike Swick did not look impressive. I don't think he can last 5 rounds with Rich Franklin.

I wouldn't quite say he dominated Penn...... Penn has worked on his sprawl and defended Hughes take downs alot. Also I believe the fight was very close to being over when Penn had the Triangle choke on Hughes.

On Sherdog.com they are all saying Penn broke a rib late in the 2nd which is why he got beat in the 3rd, it would explain why his hands were so low in the 3rd...to protect his body.

As for GSP's comments, he only did that to sell his fight, you can tell it was not like him to say something like that, almost like it was scripted. He was very upset that Matt got upset about it and was very appologetic about it, Rogan said after the fight that GSP is a really nice guy and that it was clear he was trying to use American salesmanship to sell more PPV buys for his fight with Hughes. Perhaps GSP was trying to be like Ortiz to stir the pot, but he's too nice of a guy to make it work.

Yep, Hughes was totally saved by the bell in the 2nd round. It was a great fight though.
