tying down a canoe

I am having problems tying down a canoe to my 2004 4dr Mazda3 GS. I am currently using hooks attatched to the plastic guard underneath the front bumper and the tie down hooks under the rear. I think the rear tie down hooks are fine, but im worried about the front bumper tearing off if i go over a large bump or something. I cant seem to find a way to attatch the front straps to the frame of the car without removing the plastic underguard. If anyone has any solutions to this problem it would be much appreciated.

Maybe through the lower grille and attached to the metal part of the front bumper? (scratch)

I thought of using the little ringlet.....but unfortunately i need two anchor points to safely tie the canoe down. I may use the ringlet for one rope....but i cant think of anything for the second.

I ended up using a single tie down through the tow ring in the front of my Sport, and two at the back for stability and had no problems at speeds of up to 110km/h. I would recommend using a roof rack if you can find one that fits, that should work out just fine.
