who all has the short shifter? Is it crazy notchy? I'm stoked about having the knob lower than stock height, but my buddies DieselGeek SS for the 5speed on his GTi is crazy short throw, but also a hassle and burden to drive.

I'd like to know if its still smooth and not crazy crazy notchy, or if I should spend money elsewhere.

i do..its pretty nice..the only thing im a little disapointed with is that it is prett stiff.. (i have the bushings also). other than that its really nice short throw..it will be alot easier to miss third i think...so i place my hand at an angle when im shifting into third

it makes sense to me that you could get an idea of what a shorter throw would feel like if you just tried shifting while holding your shifter below the knob...if you don't feel like it's overly notchy by doing that, i wouldn't worry about it.

as clarification: i do NOT have the TWM SS, so i'm just speculating here, but i have often wondered the same thing about getting the shifter. since i couldn't tell for sure, i just settled on the shifter bushings and am currently waiting for the adjustable cobb SS...available in approximately 2 eons...+_+;

ive got the ss on the way this week some time, hopefully getting installed this weekend. I'd be happy to review it for you once i get it in, but you may have yours already by then!

ooo...that would be good to hear from a fresh swap! for now, i'm thinking that i want a boost gauge more than i want a short shifter. i am REALLY curious what my boost pressures are in all my gears...

EDIT: that and i'm a ricer wannabe and want more cool neon lights + needles in my cabin! (bang)

get the prosport premium, best light show in my opinion, on start up and shut down, along with flashing warnings(hear ya)

the thing that made me think twice about the prosports is that some people have been coming back saying that they rattle. that's really annoying to me, cause i love to drive with nothing on so that i can hear my car properly, and any rattle just pisses me off.

My only complaint (and this is very minor) is that my hand will hit my parking brake on the 6th gear shift.

You're like me. You grab the knob from the side with your knuckles running vertically, instead of grabbing it across the top with your knuckles horizontal.
I tried the trick with grabbing the shift below the knob months ago(essentially all most short shifters are is a shortened rod anyway) and decided that while I could live with the feel, I did not look forward to the bruised hand or re-learning to hold the shifter the other way.

Mine should come tomorrow. I may actually install this part (my motor mount has been sitting around for months). I'll post impressions here after it's in...

Can't understand how it helps your hearing, but the ladies up in SUVs must love that!

oh, they DO! ;) it makes perfect sense, though...pants and shirts are a nuisance because the cloth deadens sound...we must maximize resonance in order to get the full acoustic effect! (eek2)

I have the short shifter and I can say you have to change the way you grab the shifter. The shifter, as you know is push down to engage reverse. The thing is when its lower..like 1.75 inches with the SS i think, I had a tendency to push down on the shifter while shifting gears if I was driving fast.. which I ddin't like and still do sometimes. Anyway my point is..I had to train myself to grab the shift knob not from the top like you normally would by putting the palm of your hand on top of the shift knob but actually wrap my hand around the base of the shift knob thus not allowing me to push down on it since its lower. I kind of also feel like the spring to push down is a little softer than the stock. Overall, not a big deal to me but needed to get use to it.
Also, the short shifter is stiffer than stock and requires a little bit more to shift..other than that I really like the shifter. This car should have come with it.

heres a pic..It seem to "break in" its not so stiff anymore..or maybe i just got more buff..lol
