Tweeter Placement

I just bought a CX-7 with the standard stereo. I figured for what the upgraded stereo costs I could put one in that's a lot better than that. I noticed that the dash doesn't have the cutouts for the tweeters as is in the dash with the Bose stereo. I am considering just pulling the dash off and cutting my own holes and using my own grills. Anyone pull the dash off before? How involved is it? Where are you mounting your aftermarket tweeters?

Well as far as the front goes I would have put them near the door releases but there was something in the way so I put them here

They're adjustable so I don't get a bad sound stage with that position, I assume taking the dash apart would be tedious.

Anyone pull the dash off? Also, anyone installed a subwoofer yet? I've seen the one that goes across the back with the CX-7 in it. Anyone build one for 1 10"? I am in the brainstorming process right now. Thanks

The dash isn't very fun to take off... I looked into it for placing 3.5" speakers, or maybe tweeters up there, but you basically have to take the entire front out of the car and I didn't want to damage any of the trim pieces.

I mounted my tweeters in those black plastic trim inserts in the door, next to the windows. If you have a hole saw it takes like 5 seconds, and they fit perfectly.

I thought about putting 8" subs in the front doors. But that would take away the mid-range speakers and I would have lost a lot of sound. Unless anyone has ideas where to mount another set of speakers :)

edit:
I had an 2 extra sets of tweeters so I went crazy. I have 6.5" component midrange speakers mounted in all the doors. With tweeters mounted in the yellow spots of this picture. The tweeters in the back are in the little removable panels that allow you to get to the rear struts.

I think I may try to do an 8" sub under one of the seats as well later.

I would love to put my old componenet set, and amp in subs in, but i have a lease and don't want to put any holes in my doors. I really don't like my stock sound system.
