turkey sound after installing intake

:
Mazdaspeed Protege 03.5
Hey guys

Im a noob to the board so please be gentle. I just installed the Weapon-R Secret Weapon intake on my Speed Protege. My question is what can I do about The compressor surge. It still has the OEM BPV. (actually everything else is stock because I was waiting for the warranty to run out before adding mods) I am not sure why it would be gobbling tho. I was planning on upgrading the OEM bypass so if that is the reason please suggest some alternatives that will stop my car from sounding like a damn turkey
Thanks

That's normal (or at least it happens to all MSP's, not sure if it's classified as "normal").

Only way to get rid of it is run two valves (BPV/BOV) or an aftermarket BOV can usually eliminate most/all of the turkey.

two ways to fix this. 1. you can get the boostsciences bypass valve. I have a friend that has it and he has no turkey and a nice little woosh. 2. you can do the dual setup which I use and I have no turkey. I have the stock bpv and an hks ssqv welded to my cold pipe. you will need hardpipes to run this setup. to be honest, i wish i would have just gone with the boostsciences valve.

so is it bad for the turbo? will just putting on the intake actually kill my car instead of helping? just to make sure we are thinking of the same sound here is a clip of another car but its making the same sound

I was going to get the forge BOV listed below but I heard its bad for the speed protege to change out the BPV to a BOV.

would this BOV be a good thing?

The turkey was always there, putting on an aftermarket intake just made the sound resonate better.

I had the Forge BOV on my car a long time ago. It did help the turkey quite a bit.

hmm.. Well I guess I will look into the Boostsciences diverter valve. Thanks for the help you guys. I would like to get hardpipes but I think that will be eventually.
So driving it as is for now will be ok? aside from the aesthetic of the sound

I will be gentle, but you really should have looked at the link on the main MSP forum page which says "Newbie's Guide: Please Read Before Posting": http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=81325. You will notice in this on step5 the "how to kill your turkey": http://msprotege.com/vbb225/showthread.php?s=&threadid=40956.
Previous posts have mentioned putting on a BOV, but didn't go in great detail. The previous link does.
Good luck with your turkey killing!

i dont get it.. i installed a K&N filter charger in my stock airbox and i stop hearing the turkey.. dont ask why.. i dont get it either..

i shift in second in boost and i hear a small whoosh.. still holding a nice 6- 6.5 psi..

but then that didnt give me the option of putting on the boostsciences blow off valve. So I indeed needed to ask the question

Turkey is not bad, it is just the normal BOV sound bouncing off the turbo fans, through your intake.

Some people have said it blows into the turbo and hurts it somehow, but it's not possible, it get's sucked back in with the intake air charge.

thank you thank you thank you. Even though we are gonna get loud on this thread with this subject it is nice to see somebody else in agreeance (sp?). Although they sound similar, this is not compressor surge. Surge is a lot harsher. I enjoyed my turkey, gave the car character.

i think we all forgot the main problem here...the kid bought a weapon R product...you'll survive the turkey but please next time go with quality product (nuts)

perhaps you can let me know what is wrong with the weapon r product? or have suggestions as to a "quality product". The reviews were all showing the same for my system as the Perrin you have. or is this just your opinion.

weapon R typically makes cheap products. The materials, R&D, and everything is cheaper, therefore they can offer parts cheaper. In the world of car modification the old adage "You get what you pay for." rings true.

But, it is only an intake, which is just some tubing and a filter, so it can't be too far from off a more well known name brand.

lol on a intake the only thing that could be cheep is the filter and i pipe i guess but the pipe doesnt matter if you buy weapon R pipes then slap a AEM filter on that b**** your good to go. lol

Yeah weapon r is like buying apc...its backed by no research or product development....perrin makes parts specifically for MSPs and actually research them.

Just cause a company includes a window sticker with their product doesnt make it good.

You want suggestions? go with AEM, Perrin, or Injen...as far as intakes go they are quality

it is only an intake, yeah, but there can be major differences in the diameter or length of the tube, quality of the filter, what material the pipe is made from or if it has any type of coating on the inside. It is just an opinion that weapon r is crap. But i base my opinion on more than just how many ads there are for something or if pep boys stocks it on their shelves.

Im not trying to knock the guy for buying weapon R, ive bought things that i thought later were a waste of money or ended up not being what i wanted. Live and learn thats all.

I also like Perrin cause they support the forum!
