Turbosmart Bypass Valve, Legal for Stock Class SCCA?

Just as the title states. I recently replaced my factory bypass valve with a Turbosmart Bypass Valve kit. Not the adjustable blow off valve.

Would this be considered an 'upgrade' that would take me out of the stock class for SCCA Solo, or will it be considered a factory-type replacement? (i.e. comparable to a panel filter change from cloth to a K&N.)

Bump

I've been wondering the same thing. Let me post what the rule says in my case.

d) No changes are permitted to blow-off/pop-off valves.

e) Compressor bypass valves (CBVs) are considered part of
the air intake system, and may be added, replaced or
updated/backdated independently of the other compo-
nents of a forced induction system

These are from the SCCA rules for DSP meaning that if our BPV are deemed, "upgrades," we would have to run Street Mod :(. I'm going to post this up on my regions forums and let people have at it.

Good thoughts. From that statement, I potentially interpret "d." to read no changes which would vary the stock boost pressure. I take that from the blow-off or pop-off part meaning an over-pressure relief. "e." may refer to our bypass valves as part of the intake system or intake pressure safety relief. i.e. changes to "d" may potentially increase performance or boost control capabilities, whereas changes to "e" merely allow the driver to take full advantage of the stock boost capacities.

From my experience, after swapping the stocker for the TS BPV there was better response and less what I would call flutter from the system, but no real power gain.

Here is what was posted on my regions forums after I posted up the rule for them to look at.

if your quoted rule is from Street Prepared, then you should be fine to remain in DSP.

Thing is though that is the rule from DSP. The rules for stock classes say nothing about blow-off or BPV so you may be in trouble if you are hoping to stay in D stock.

From the 2009 SCCA Solo Rulebook, regarding engine & drive train modifications for Stock Classes:
The engine air filter element may be removed or replaced. A replacement element which is taller than standard may not be used to hold the air cleaner cover open. No other components of the air induction system may be removed, replaced or modified.
The next question is whether anyone in your class or any of the officials would have a problem with your valve. Typically, if you're not competing at a very high level, no one will mind/care. That mod really gives no advantage anyhow.

I've run in D-stock with my Cobb intake installed before, after I checked with the other D-stock guys; no one had a problem.

Heres a scca list of what modifications are acceptable in different classes just remove spaces

Your bov would move you out of stock and put you with street modified
