Turbocharging a protege?

Hey man, boost it, even with 6psi which is safe, with the correct parts, you will be close to what a wrx do when stock, maybe better. It will be fun...we promise you that.

Thes a manifold and downpipe on the Sales forum that you dont want to miss out!!!!

Nah. A turboed Protege is unique and will surprise the hell out of people. I love my turboed Protege. Can't imagine life without her. Well worth the money

Yeah, 170hp cars surpise the hell out of me to. All 15 seconds of it down the drag strip. (breakn)

Not long ago a friend of mine who is a crack in cars, turbocharged his car. I'm planning on putting a lil'bit of money on my car so i was thinking on putting a new engine from Japan but he told me that it was impossible with my car since it's a 2002. Now he offered me to turbocharge my car for less then 3000$. So I went to a garage for my exhaust line and i spoke to the dude there and he told me that it would be a pain in my ass more then anything to turbo my ride. First he said that it would be impossible to turbo under 3000$ cause there's a piece that i have to chance on my cataliser close to my engine that cost like 1500$(my friend said i didn't need that piece though). Now i've seen some protege LX 2002 trubo charged and it wasn't a MSP. My question is, would it be worth it to turbo charge my car keeping in mind that i need this car to be reliable since i drive to school with it and i need a car to go anywhere from where i live?

1.) You can't afford to turbo your car.

2.) Your friend is a ******* idiot. Tell him I said that too.

3.) Don't turbo you Protege.

4.) You don't drive a Honda, there's no magical JDM engine.*

*Don't try to give me some bulls*** and tell me about the Sport20 engine and try to sound smart any of you.

i personally wouldn't go comparing front wheel drive to all wheel drive, but i just know that my car is so much of a blast to drive that i totalled one out (not my fault) and came back for another without a second thought. i know that the build on my car is going to be worth more than the car itself, but, i am a cool dad in my car with the two kids in back. i couldn't imagine any other car that i could buy that would be as much fun, easy to work on/find parts for, be safe enough for the kids, and be so unique all at once.

if you want a dependable car dont do it......... zoom zoom boom
there is a lot of money and time involved in turbocharging and keeping it reliable. i would strongly recommend a new engine and transmission that are built to handle the power. like i say, with time, talent, and money, all things are possible.

if you don't do your own work, you need a lot more time and money.

you can make life easier and extend the life of your car by having it tuned properly by a professional. many problems arise simply because of improper air/fuel mixture in the engine with a turbo.

that means a lot of added cost, though. There will be reliability issues. Especially if you do the work yourself. As long as you're willing to deal with them, it's not that big a deal.

I agree that ive spent way too much money putting a turbo into my protege but when you pull up to a v8 mustang , and then blow bye it and then see the look on there face, i know it was well worth it.Also since putting the turbo on my car ive actually gotten better gas mileage.

are you sure their not v6 stangs you blow by . i have a turbo 01lx 10psi someother stuff and its slow as balls compared to other cars , with the money this car has cost me i could have bought 3rd gen rx7 that would fist the pro up and down the street all day long "stock" so down waste your money . not worth it IMO .

Well i have a fully built motor with a mpnick upgraded turbo running 16 psi and its damn fast. I race my friends 5.0 mustang and i smoke him everytime. Also my girlfriends brother owns a 93 rx7tt and it costs him the same if not more to modify it. Rotory engines are nice but so damn expensive to modify and maintain.and i also know the difference between a v6 and a v8 IMO
