Turbo timer???

Just curious if anyone has one installed yet and if so which brand? I'm thinking of adding one so I don't have to wait everytime I stop the car. Are they difficult to install? I have experience working on cars as i've installed superchargers etc etc etc. in the past.

Thanks,
Pete

What exactly does a turbo timer do? I've searched the forum for the answer, but none of the posts have been too clear. Won't changing anything related to the turbo void the warranty? If so, would you take these parts off before you take it in for scheduled maintence or do you just take it in anyway?

All a turbo timer does is keep the car running after you turn off the ignition. With a turbo car you should let the turbo spool after driving it esp. when hard or at long highway runs. When you stop your car you should let it idle for 30 or more seconds. With a turbo timer when you turn the ignition off it will keep the car idling for as long as you program the timer to. It is sort of the opposite of a remote car starter. It doesn't add any performance to the car or mess with the turbo it just lets the car idle while you do whatever.

turbo timer just lets the turbo cool off after you take the key out of your car. It keeps it running for however long you set it. I don't think you have to worry about taking it off for anything. Someone let me know if i am wrong though.

Would that void the warranty though? Is it something I should take to the dealer to install if I know nothing about putting one in?

Not sure about the warranty. Have any friends that can help put it in?

I spoke with my Mazda dealer. Adding a turbo timer or boost gauge will not affect your warranty.

I received my Blitz Turbo Timer/Boost Gauge, but haven't installed it yet.

What about installation? Would anyone wanna take pics during the installation so the rest of us who aren't so mechanically inclined can take a look?

AGR#7, How does the boost gauge work? Does it just show up on the screen while your driving or do you have to hook an actual Gauge to it?

No..it's all self contained. You hook up to the turbo boost line under the hood, etc... I am getting assistance with mine, as I have never hooked one up either. But; Here is a link to a member here that has installed his: Britt (122 Vega). He has some nice photos of the exact unit, and how he mounted it.

Ok thanks a lot man. I think I'm going to order it here soon. I want to preserve the life of the turbo as long as I can. How long of an install do you think that would be? Does anyone know anybody near the Cincinnati area that can install things such as a boost controller and a turbo timer?

The boost guage is fairly simple to install. All you need to do is find any vaccuum hose inside the engine bay. Add a "T" fitting adapter to it that plugs into the supplied tubing supplied with the guage. This tube is run through the firewall into the cabin. This part can be a b****. Then you wire it to whereever you are install the guage. When not under wide open throttle the boost guage will show vaccuum pressure. When under load the vaccuum will switch to boost when the turbo starts working. Then the guage needs to be connected to the dash lighting. Should take an hour or so depending on how handy you are.
