For knowing so much about turbos, why would you put a CAI on a turbo car. That is worthless. Just slap a SRI on it and be done.
Yes, you are correct. I used the incorrect term when I said CAI. I do agree, with a turbo there is no need to tune the intake length. The term CAI just came to mind when I think of better breathing. Not sure if its out yet, but the MAZDASPEED intake setup for the MS3 seems to do very well. Reviews said it may be good for 30HP and a bit better driveability.
With regard to the cooldown, yes the manual says that after hard boosting it is important to idle for 30-60 seconds. But, because this IS a water-cooled turbo (as opposed to solely being an oil-cooled one), unless you were running really, really hard just a few seconds ago, turning off your engine after, say, finding a parking space, should be more then enough time for the scroll to slow down, and the cooling to do fine on its own, after shutdown. I could certainly see you needing to run a turbo timer after pulling a "Fast and the Furious" parking job, or after shutting her down right after running up a mountain on boost. So, in that way, I agree, I'd wait before shutting down.
Also, I don't know if a lot of people know this, but most high-end alarms today have a turbo-timer feature built right in. Makes sense, since the alarm is wired into the car pretty heavily. So, one possible way to go is to buy a top of the line alarm, and then just set it to run the car for 30 seconds after you set the alarm.
Ummmmmmmmm...... Not sure about that one since it Sayes even in the manual to allow 30-60secs for time to cool down the turbo after a long or hard drive. And Im also pretty sure that they are oil cooled. Instead of buying a turbo timer just sit and listen to a little bit of a song before you turn it off! Unless your looking into boosting options aswell.
The turbo in the MS3 is lubricated with oil, but cooled with water. I'm sure its cooled somewhat by the oil, but water is the primary.
I guess bottom line, if you want one, get it, because its your money as always. I just don't think this car needs it nearly as much as the old 300Zs, Supras, 240sx turbos, RX-7s, and all that. The oil coking issues in these cars is omnipresent, but the newer turbos like the MS3's enjoy the advantage of thermal siphoning, a natural effect of using water.
