Hey guy's! Well my set up is almost completed! All of the parts should be here this week and I SHOULD!? be boosted by next week. As far as my set up goes, it is all peiced together. It is not a kit by any means. Spoolin played a big part in this build up so I just wanted to say (on a public forum that is...) THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP TERRY!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is my set up:

Spoolin tubular manifold w/external wastegate flange
Turbonetics Deltagate wastegate
Vortec FMU
FMIC from Mitsubishi Starion
Turbonetics T*** Turbo (hehehe ssshhhhh!)
Manual boost controller
HKS Super Sequential BOV
Charge piping will be done locally

That is it for now. I will be getting my gauges to monitor my vitals next week and will be doing a full straight thru 3" exhaust when all is said and done. I will keep you guys informed on my progress and will be the first boosted Protege anything in Hawaii!!! Oh yeah!

Dave

Niiiiice setup!

But I didn't saw an intercooler in those parts. Are you planing to get one?

You will also need a clutch. You will not made long with the stock one. Not even a day before it start to slip.

FMIC from the Mitsubishi Starion. I will be getting a clutch and flywheel shortly after I complete the install. I will be installing it in my garage and all I would need done would be the charge piping and exhaust piping, well hopefully anyway!

Dave

Does this mean you (PRO 5) are the first p5 to use Spoolins manifold?...also the first p5 on this site to do a custom setup?...am I forgetting about anyone?

In any case...good luck...youre going to have one badass p5. (thumb) (blackp5)

I feel like a little kid during Christmas!!! My turbo came in today! It's a Turbonetics T3/T4 Ceramic Ball Bearing Turbo! :D Almost everyone said that it is overkill but we shall see... If it takes forever to reach full boost, I will let you guys know. If it reaches full boost quickly (crossing my fingers) I will let you guys know. All I am waiting for is my BOV. I already talked to a local shop (Hypersports) and will be getting my intercooler piping done next week. So God willing, I should be boosted and join the DARKSIDE sometime next week.
I am still trying to save enough money to get my clutch and flywheel. Is there any end!!!

Dave

Wassup Dave,

Hey man how are you doing? I hope everything with your car is good. You car is phat and is going to kick some honda ass when that turbo is installed ,nah but good luck. If you don't know me i am the guy from Maui I meet you in Waipahu. Shootz then Dave and lets us know about your turbo setup everything that we need to know keep us updated.

Okay the turbo is a T4E 54trim .50 on the pressure side with a .63 stage 3 turbine, in an undivided standard pattern T3 housing. The center is a ceramic-ball bearing, dry unit (no water)and it has a been high speed balanced!

Dave

They can just about put any size turbine you want! I have a question for you Terry. Do I need to use check valves? I thought I heard something about check valves in prior post.

Dave

Thank you kindly!!!

I'm very interested to see how your setup performs...what kind of power numbers are you shooting for (crank and wheel)?

Good luck!

So am I! I am aiming for 180 to 190 at the wheels (6 to 8 psi) with this setup. If it is less then so be it but I have to set a goal. I will be going with engine managment and bigger injectors after I get my clutch and flywheel and then I will be aiming for about the same hp level as Spoolin! Well that's what I hope for anyway. As soon as I get the car back, I will make sure everything is running smoothly and if it is then I will be taking it to the 1/4 mile on Oct. 4th. So I will let you guys know the ever so unanswered question "What is the 1/4 mile time for a turbo Protege?". I hope that I don't get disappointed!

Dave

250 whp!!! Wow I'd like to see that! I would really like that. I will be doing dyno runs also when I get my car up and running. Just to see how much the initial setup will net me. Then it will be how much the transmission can hold up! I heard that with better transmission fluid, it can actually help the synchros (which is the weakest link in out tranny) out. Can anyone tell me if this is true?

I am unsure about the tranny?
You should hit 250 whp with that setup and a standalone system running 8psi. But I would say that the limitation right there on stock internals. Upgrade your internals and make 300whp and buy a 15000 dollar sequential tranny.............LOL

Well at NOPI I talked to John of Balistic unlimited he thinks that our trannys will hold up, but me being like you guys I find that hard to believe.

Also you think that he will put down 250 at the flywheel or the ground. I was going to get mine dynoed at NOPI but they wouldn't let me, they said that I didn't register. I will be running it at the 1\8th of a mile track this comming Friday. I'll post some times, the car is acting funny, I think I have some leak somewhere. First gear it is going to 5 psi, then back down to 3 and a half psi. The same in second gear, but at 5th gear it is steadily at 5psi. What do you think? Weird huh
