Turbo RX-8!

Hey guys, I'm obviously new to the forum but am currently shopping for an RX-8. I've owned a few 7's in my time and am worried about the power levels. I know it will handle great but I'm thinking of immediately installing a forced induction setup. Has anyone heard of these guys?

I've heard the only real popular 'kit' is the Greddy one and it's not that efficient. We'll see what happens. On one hand I'm stuck between white and that titanium gray. On the other I can't decide between Greddy or a custom setup...(shady)

I've heard of him, a member on the other forum I frequent has a custom set up from Turblown. He does great work. There are also a few other kits out just depends on your $$$. There is Speed Force Racing and Esmeril. Get the white one BTW, they are teh sechs.

I have heard good things about the guys at turblown too. The RX8 is tricky to turbo safely and get decent power out of. Not imposible just tricky and that translates to expensive. If you are looking for a shop to do it you need to be sure that they have experiences with the 8. Most 7 specific shops won't touch them, and very few tuners know enough to be anything but dangerous. In order to be done right there are a ton of supporting mods that need to be done. What are your goals. Power level, DD or track rat, etc?

My tentative goals are at or around 375/400whp accompanied by a respectable torque curve. I know a lot of 'souped' up rx7's that go for peak hp and are actually slow cars comparatively.

I did a little research and visited Turblown's shop today as they are relatively close to me. Great guys, they recommended ignition upgrades, at least a Cobb accessport or better, and I will probably look at their new line of heat shielding components off the bat. They had 3 other rx8's in the shop and 2 of them had forced induction. We'll see, it's definitely not my daily driver but I plan on street driving it most of the time.

Solid- I love your white 8! I'm pretty sure I will hold out for one. Are they a lesser common color? I know they only made the bright yellow for a few years...(cool)

First of all...Welcome to Mazda Forums, MattP! (hi)

Awesome project you're taking on here...Definitely keep us updated on your progress with lots of (pics) & vids if possible...Thanks and enjoy the forums! :D

a local guy has that kit on his 8. the company that installed it threw in a meth injection for free. i don't know what he paid for it, but i can imagine the install was expensive. he went through alamo rotary in texas. the only thing that i didn't like about it was the intercooler had a single side feed and return and was pretty small. probably the reason for the meth though.

375 to 400 whp? Don't even bother with the greddy kit. You will need a custom setup, or one based off of the SFR or Esmeril kit. Turblown can probably get you there too, but it will probably be a lot of custom work. You'll need a boat load of supporting mods, meth, and probably ceramic or at very least esmeril apex seal with a rebuild. Look into what little porting available too. Tons of tuning will be necessary too. I don't want to be a nay-sayer, but it will be an expensive endeavor to say the least. I'd say around $10k if not more. It will be an awesome build for sure and I'm interested in your progress. Take what I say with a grain of salt as I'm not boosted, but I've done quite a bit of research and reading. Most shoot for ~300 to 330 and seem to be very happy and still can afford dinner. Good luck and keep us posted.

P.S. I had the same color problem. I went with Ti grey. It would have been white, but I couldn't find any at the time.

do some research at rx8club, there are plenty of cars for sale and there seems to be always one turbo kit for sale. the greddy is a decent kit once you get an upgrade from a company called BHR, they are also work with MazdaManiac who tunes with the cobbs unit, he tuned/tuning my N/A rx-8 with some minor mods and it made a night and day difference!!. he aslo tunes with the turbos, as long as the MAF is in the right place
