I got to thinking the other day, my goal is to put the hiboost turbo kit in my pro5 this next spring, forged internals and all that, but then i got to thinking instead of worrying about hurting my car, maybe i should just find a nice mazdaspeed and trade the Pro5 in for that???

Whats the Stock hp of a speed...??

Would It be better and safer to just buy a speed instead of the turbo?

Any Young guys have insurance prices for me, when i was looking for a new car, anything that was known to street racing was going to make my insurance go sky high...anybody know how much it would go up?

Lets here Any and All Suggestions, concerns, complaints, opinions, Etc...THANKS

the speed has 170hp stock.
Id say that ud be better off getting a used one for around 9-10k (theres a nice one on eBay for 9k with 34,000 miles on it).

im 19 and live in MA and my insurance for my speed is 2700 a year. but i think you should just get a speed 3

I agree, if you have the money, go for a Speed 3, they are only around $24,000
new. Other than that $9,000 sounds cheap for a MSP w/34000 miles.

yea, i dont really like the speed3, i just love the looks of Proteges, I think im just going to save up until this spring like planned and try to turbo my Pro5, but if i dont have enough to do everything right, then i might sell my Pro5 and buy a speed,

I'd say if you're seriously looking at getting a car w/a turbo and having it be reliable, don't get a msp or turbo your p5. Either one will give you headaches.

My suggestion is look for a car that comes stock w/a turbo that is proven reliable.

any ideas??? what are the negs of a speed?? i hear alot bout the lsd?
i just think that im more into looks of my car, but would like to have a lil more balls then my Pro5

both p5 and msp have the same motor. The fs-de has been known to blow even with a n/a car.

LSD is also a problem.

If you want a lil more horsepower, do some small boltons.

Header, intake, exhaust, underdrive pulley, motor mounts will make your car feel so much better. And it'll cost around a grand to do.

Otherwise go for a WRX or Mazdaspeed 3 or Mazdaspeed 6.

To me the answer all depends on your budget. What are you looking to spend. You already have basically the same platform as an MSP. If funds are tight, then slap on a good turbo kit and call it a day. If you really like the MSP and can find a good one that is reasonably priced, then that's something to consider.

As far as insurance goes, there is no rule about cars known for street racing. The closest theory to that would be the power to weight ratio. Certain cars will carry a surcharge if they are deemed to have too much power. A Mazdaspeed is not one of them. Another issue that can be held against you is if you are under 25 and drive a performance car. Where the vehicle is garaged, your driving record, cost new of the vehicle, and the limits selected will have the biggest impact on your premium.

For example if you live in a metro area, have moving violations, and opt for
$500,000 or $1,000,000 liability limits you are going to be paying a lot.

If you are leaning towards an MSP, keep in mind that the cars are not some sort of ticking time bomb as far as reliability. I do not know the exact number produced, but IMO there are far more on the road today without issues than with. There would be a forced recall issued if it were.

People blow up their cars because they don't do things the right way (most of the time). An MSP with good tunning and the right mods can reliably made over 200whp without poping. Weld the LSD for cheap insurance and your good to go with a fairly quick fun car.

you hit the right spot, thats all i want 200hp and then audio and looks. Im really thinking about buying a local's MSP...you might of heard of it...THE BANANA OF FURY...its already got a built block, and all the goodies, plus its close and i like it...

i boostd my mp5, it has its draw backs.
1. u need ems
2. upgrade trans, clutch, flywheel
3. tuning u or a shop by the hour
4. cuting into the factory harness
5. wife will kill me if the engine goes boom boom
6. etc. etc.
there is alot if u dont know what ur working with, if something goes wrong is it ur DD. i am in luck i have a company van that i can use. s*** the car is down now to have the manifold fixed for emissions. there is alot to think when u boost ur car, at times i like its time to let it all go. bring it back to stock, but i love the sound of the bov. it might be better to by a boostd car. just my 2ct

Thinking about buying Dadelus's car? I haven't had any problems with my MSP but you have to remember that any car you beat on will break. Everyone says the WRX is reliable but a friend of mine drives his really hard and has had to put in a new motor, tranny and LSD in the past year.

insurance is a variable guess at best.

to give you an idea though with my personal experience.

I had a 2003 Jetta, switched to the MSP, and my insurance droped $80 a month and the MSP is more of a sports car than the jetta ever will be.

Now as far as tuning goes, no there is NOTHING WRONG with the vehicle stock. The engine was pushed to its limits, and Im sure both Mazda and Calloway knew this. It makes modding very difficult and if not done right, can go zoom zoom boom. If you have neither the patience or experience to tune an FS-DE the right way, it may not be the car worth tuning for you. In either event, the MSP is a blast to drive and I love it even with all my little tiny issues. MP5T can be a fun car with similiar or better performance to the MSP and will be more of a rarity/sleeper. Up to you.

When I went from my P5 to MSP I think my insurance only went up like $18 a month.

ya thats the thing, i know if i put the time money into my pro5 i will love it, and it will be reliable, but honestly i dont know if i have the time and money to do it right, id rather buy a car that is already built, and reliable. I think im more into looks and sound rather then speed, but then i like a lil speed so whats y i want a MSP...makes since to me. haha. Plus the Banana of fury is already built for anything and its a locals car so it just seems to fit me, the negative it the yellow, i dont know if im a big fan of the yellow, but hell i can put some money away and get it painted. also thinking about 11-savy's Msp, its almost 100% stock and very nice...

not to put anybody to shame or start anything i bet its a really nice car but if you consider buying a car with a built mortor you better look at EVERYTHING that has been done. the only problem i had ever had was my tranny which recently blew on me due to yes stupidity and failure to fix a pronlem that happend along time ago. i love my speed it handles great and if the right mods can be fast while still turning heads every where you go. my speed has been relaible and the best car i had ever owned. things to consider is that the car hesitates alot and will drive you insane for a few weeks. love the speed and to you would be a better investment then to turbo your pro5 cause like some one said it comes stock turboed and under warranty. cause if you blow the motor in the pro5 you will be in a bad situation, kinda like i am with my tranny.
