Turbo Manifold

I am just finishing the drawing (head flange) which should be done today. Material for prototype will be here Thursday and I'll get started cutting metal over the weekend. There is a local guy who might be able to test fit for me which would be easiest and quick. After that a production run of 10 will take about a month to complete and get ceramic coated.

Photos from Leen - I'll post more info later

Do you think I should slot the manifold for those lower inner studs?

I don't have a Protege so have been working from just a stock manifold for the design.

As far as I can tell from the CAD file it shouldn't be too bad.

The flange as drawn here is 5/8 thick which will be thinned down around the stud locations making for easy access with a wrench.

What do you mean by good? Performance? Strength?

From my experience I think it will perform much better than stock so you should gain a few HP + torque + faster spool/earlier boost.

Strength is second to none.

I'm not quite done with the looks side of it yet as I can't decide to keep it smooth or add a bit of design to it for looks. I might just engrave with my company name and leave it at that unless you guys would like something custom/personalised?

Well not only me and the rest of MSP owners but including you , performance strength and hp gain result is what is after this project.

i like what you got in mind in that " engraving something on it"

no pressure on the design/concept either, just waiting to see how much hp gain is gonna yell.

This would definetly provide better performance than stock as well don't get me wrong on that part either.

Keep up with you're work, seems you're taking GT SPEC by surprize on many design imo.

That's good as competing market + choices = lower prices :D

I didn't know GT SPEC was even interested in making a manifold for the msp. Last I heard from them, they were more interested in STI and EVO due to the market.

I just talked to ION about their manifolds and even with equal length runners they didn't see any power increase over stock except they made boost earlier. They have some cool stuff but it just goes to show that a fancy tubular manifold isn't the be all and end all. (theirs was made with inconel too FFS!). If you go to the turbo magazine website they had a project Protege on which they had good success with the ION stuff. Their products are simply replacing every pipe with a bigger one so easy to duplicate results.

I might see if they want to evaluate my manifold so we can get some numbers.

Banana LOL! Yeah it is a nice shade of yellow eh!

I'm part way through getting it fitted with programable injection and then I'll hopefully be able to drive it again.

So whats up with the Banana?? Are we going to see a comeback or what??

Still a possibility. I might trade it in on something if it pisses me off too much. Needs a bunch of work in my opinion. If she comes back she needs to be broken down and inspected first before i'll trust her again to be safe. I've still got a s*** ton of parts to go on it, but I just don't have the time to mess with it right now. So we'll see... if someone wants a project, they just need to let me know! (thumb)

Cheers man!

Ok so Leen Steed is just about done with the Mazdaspeed direct replacement proto manifold - As a feeler who is interested in picking one up? Leen is not an approved vender so, if enough people are interested, he will need someone who is to set up a a group buy. If the admins are ok with it I will start a GI thread once Leen has pics of the finished manifold.
