Turbo lag what causes them?

Ok my mazdaspeed protege has a very bad lack of turbo here are my reasons... 1# I have 2 codes witch are p0171 & p0421 P0171 is the 02sensor i know and P0421 it was egr... but turbo lag was alreadyl there when I didn't have that. can anyone explain to me what can cause the turbo to lag?.. I have a new waste gate ima put on... the last time I had the turbo lag I saw all 3bolt on my steed speed mani was not put on only one was and and the steed speed mani crack right down the to the 02sensor... so I put my factory mazdaspeed header but i have a problem the egr wont bolt all the way in.. AND YES THE STEED SPEED HEADER BROKE "SMH" so all I want to know what causes egr tube wont screw all the way in? is it a bad waistgate?... i had a oil leak on the turbo but i fixed it.. Pretty soon im driving of to florida with my car and im driving from jersey yes long ride so i wannna get it in tip top shape so please some one help me... all i wannna know is what can cause a turbo to lag and cause my car to go on low idle....

Did i read this right? your steedspeed manifold cracked?

Please use more punctuation. That is one of the longest, most undeciferable statements I have tried to read in a long time. It makes it hard to understand what you are trying to say, it just doesnt make any sense.

Oh and I read it again, but still not sure what you are trying to say. Seems like you definitely have issues

what is that egr tube called?

I think it is simply called the EGR tube, but not really sure about the part number

Yes turbos lag, but a cracked manifold will cause it to lag more as well as throw some CEL

I would be interested to see where the Steedspeed manifold cracked

sidenote: I wasn't trying to bust your balls, it is just really hard to decipher what you were saying. I actually do want to help out

it was right down the middle next to the 02sensor

i think u really need to get all that other stuff fixed first but if your still having lag and u still have your stock soft pipes check those. I had bad lag too and found that the pipe that goes from the diverter valve to the turbo side of the intake was cracked and broken... so what did i do since im broke just glued it back on with some hardcore glue.. seems much better. Id say anyone will agree with me that the factory soft pipes are junk... Everyone single person on this forum told me upgrade to a fmic or get hard pipes and replace the crappy factory ones. I got the fmic just waiting for warmer weather to dive into it...

You already answered the your own question if you think about it.... Boost leaks, exhaust leaks(pre turbo) will cause turbo lag! Also if your internal wastegate is fubar it can cause lag as well. Thats what the issue turned out to be on my MSP.

Edit: Also a turbo thats not designed for your desplacement idealy will cause turbo lag.. IR big turbos. However that is not the case with the stocker.

You solved your own dilemma but don't realize it. A huge crack in your manifold causes a major exhaust leak and will create your lag. Also doing a boost leak test will help ensure the system is leak free.
