Took mine in for the PCM update for the turbo lag and the tech also performed the recalibration of the transmission control module ....both warranty operations. BIG difference ...lag is gone! I'll monitor the trans and see if I notice any trans shift problems.

I recently bought my CX-7, and noticed this and other TSB's...so when I brought it in for it's initial cleaning(bought it when the dealership was closing, so had to bring it back for the interior/exterior cleaning), I asked the sales manager about the super dead spot from a stop to about 2000-2500 rpm, and read these TSB's...he said there was nothing to worry about, that all that would get taken care of....
Well, get the car back, there's still the huge lag, my door panels(driver front and passenger front) still have the 5 inch long crease at the top near the window, and the door seals are the originally ones that allow water/dirt/and road crud to get in...
I'm trying to print off the PDF's for those TSB's, but I can't get them to load now! Grrr...
Anyone have copies of these PDF's?

Here are the TSBs I downloaded. Take these with you.
They are supposed to mark a lable under the hood to indicate the reflash was done.
FYI Turbo Lag as many call this is a misnomer. Our cars have Fly By Wire throttles and transmission controls. This means your foot is just telling the computer what you want, it does not indicate what the computer is giving you. You cannot change turbo lag with a reflash. This is a reprogramming of the EMS computer. The original would not giver anywhere near full throttle below 3,000 RPMs. Now it opens the throttle more I still feel it is not opening it fast enough or fully. This may be an attempt to prevent Warranty issues with engines and or transmissions. I am not sure. Even Reflashed, my Turbo Baja will stomp my CX7 off the line!
I personnally cannot wait for a tuner to come up with a add on EMS that will truely run the engine and transmission correctly and to its full capability.
Also, after the reflash, I have noticed my transmissing hunting between gears when going 65-70mph and going up/down small hills where you need to add a small amount of gas to keep a steady speed. The feeling is one of suttering of the engine but it is the tranny doing this as if you pop it into manual mod it stops immediately.

Well, brought it to the dealer, with the TSB reports from yall(Thanks, by the way) and dropped it off for the afternoon yesterday. Well, the door panels are on order for the creases in it, as well as the replacement door seals, and they're supposed to call when they come in. Well, The service manager says that when we FIRST came in after the car was built for the detail and inspection, the update was done then, and there was nothing else they could do for now. He said that the technician that reflashed it the first time drove it and compared it to another CX-7 on the lot, and they felt the same. So, I get in the car, thinking "crap, this thing I guess just sucks off the line regardless" and pull out of the dealership. At the light, waiting for it to turn green, I turned off the TCS, and nailed it, just to check...MAN what a difference. They definitely reflashed the ECM, but not the first visit...they had to have reflashed it lastnight, and the technician said he had the first visit to save his butt or something. In any event, it feels MUCH better, and actually feels that there is more powere throughout the powerband. I dunno tho, just what my butt dyno says.

What's the door crease tsb? I can't a working link for that tsb and I don't really understand what you guys are describing.
Now I'm not so sure if I should flash or not. The power band definately has issues as there is too much lag and too much boost engaged after you get past the lag.
However if there are going to be unforseen issues with shifting or MPG I don't want to make things worse. Maybe it takes a little time to learn the new mapping resulting in poor mpg. Hmm... Have an appointment Friday so I better decide quick.
Funny thing is the serv. manager told me all the cars on the lot had the flash done. No sticker on mine though. I wonder if vins after the tsb all get the new mapping? Probably.

try this... make sure the front drive side door is closed.. now open the rear side door .. you should be able to see the gap at the bottom of the front driver side door. and its the same for the passanger and all the doors.
This gap is a problem because while you driving, and dirt and stuff can go up.. and on the side of your bottom door you might wonder why its always so dirty.. that is why.

Yeah, I think I'm going to get the flash done. There seems to be more praise for it than complaints overall.
Actually I have the newer door seals from what I can tell and based on my vin but, I'm wondering what this tsb is: FRONT UPPER DOOR PANEL WRINKLED ON TOP EDGE. It's in the TSB sticky but the link is dead and I can't seem to find another other conversation about it. I don't see any wrinkles (huh) in my door panel so I guess i'm fine. I just don't have a good sense of what I'm looking for..
to be honest, amongst everything that has gone wrong and broke in my car, the update without question has not come with a downside.
I havent experienced any drop in MPG or the gear-hunting some other posters have described. In fact, my gear hunting has stopped, especially on the highway - no more jumping from 6 to 5, the update has smoothed out most of the roughness of the power delivery.
my only complaint is that my engine is holding 2nd gear way too long - delaying the shift to 3rd in most cases and pushing the revs to 3100, so im using manual mode a little more in the city trying to keep my revs lower

honestly, i still get a touch of the lag after the flash, and a cursory observation of MPG indicates its a bit worse than pre-flashing, but worth it. Overall, i'd have to say that the hesitation in the pedal from a dead stop, or from a slow roll, is the most annoying part. I've actually gotten used to timing my pulling into traffic or merging because of the time that elapses between hitting the pedal and the power hitting the wheels. I also get the occaisional tranny-hunting in the upper gears on the highway.
I REALLY hope that either a Mazda-based fix is developed for this (above and beyond the Flash), or an aftermarket setup comes out soon, as it's seriously got me considering wether or not i made the best choice possible (i didn't want to spend the extra $$$ on an RDX, but after hearing how awesome its powertrain is....?)
anyways...just thought i'd vent...

I really have to agree here. I don't see the flash as the cure all it can be made to sound like. I think it is an improvement, but now that it's getting hot and with the A/C occasionally on, wow the hesitation from a stop is significant. I too am getting used to it, but you need to think twice before pulling across traffic. I think I read there is a newer flash now? I think to get the low rpm torque/HP something has to give.
I'd be curious to drive the acura since it's the same platform. I hadn't considered the rdx due to price and really it was the stricking c7 looks that brought us to consider a crossover/suv vehicle. To me it doesn't look like a truck or a small truck like most others do.

Been lurking for a little while and am taking delivery of my new Black Cherry GT next week.
Wondering if the turbo-lag problem is evident on build date cars that fall after the TSB dates, or is the flash already coming out of the factory completed?

Brought my 7 in for the 5000 miles check the other day. Got the reflash and you do notice the difference. I do not think it is night and day but well worth it. The dealership was really not interested in doing it so i left a copy of the TSB on the driver seat when I dropped it off. And benben84, I agree this car needs a manual tranny!

I went to the dealer here in Tokyo over the weekend to sign the papers on my new CX-7 (be here the end of the month). Through the course of test driving I drove two CX-7's one was a dealer car with about 6000 kilometers and another with less than 600 kilometers. The turbo lag was noticeable in the newer car but not the car with the higher milage. I asked the dealer's head mechanic over the weekend why that seemed to be the case and he explained that most likely has something to do with the car being broken in. The newer car really did have a noticable and fairly irritating lag. The older one was much smoother and kick ass. Anyone else have any information on this?

I've read that the transmission & engine have "adaptive" software logic. When you have low miles you are using the softwares "default" parameters. After many miles the software gradually changes to reflect your driving style. Maybe this has something to do with it OR did they do a custom reflash of the software? My own Cx 7 has smoothed out considerably since I started driving it. Originally I had a difficult time accelerating smoothly and now at 800 miles it is easy to drive smoothly off the line. Ed
