Turbo Kits For Sale

Also, one other point made in this thread, premium gass versus regular - who uses what now? and why? are we suppose to be using one over the other? The sales guy at the dealership I bought from said just to use regular.

I use premium gasoline as do most MP3 owners and you should be using it as well. For one, it says in the owner's manual to use that and I think as well on the gasoline cap itself(that part I forget at the moment). The reason you should be is that the MP3 gets it's extra 10 HP from having advanced timing....what happens when you use regular gasoline is the ECU detects the lower octane gas and retards the timing back to normal. One thing about salesmen at dealerships...they definitely don't know everything so it's better to come here often and ask people questions. :)

Those numbers are with a Dynojet dyno. We expect to see at least 10-12 wheel hyorsepower for every pound of boost with this kit. A 5PSI kit will equate to around 150 wheel horsepower and 175 at the flywheel using 14% as the drivetrain loss. As for the torque numbers I find it difficult to see how we are going to match Tri-Points 413 pound feet of torque??? I am estimating that around 180 pound feet will be possible on our kit.

Thanks for the answer Brett...I'm just trying to keep things straight.

I don't want people to get confused from the regular 2.0 liter making so much v. the MP3 2.0 liter making so much v. the FS-ZE making so much.

And the dyno is somewhat important. People seem to be used to the Dynojet numbers. The Clayton dyno that Tripoint used seems to really throw people off.

Oh yeah, almost forgot, those brake kits look mean for the RX-7.

Somebody here or at protegeclub.com said that TriPoints torque numbers were metric (newton-meters) or something like that, and the conversion to ft-lbs yielded about 210 ft-lbs or of torque. Which is about what you'd expect, right?

Chris

I was thinking that they may have measured it diffently (metric...foot-grams...hehe)

what about emissions?

now that all these kits are coming out for our cars (i love it!), how will they effect emissons tests ? i live in ontario canada and they are becoming a real pain in the ass about that now.

I'm interested in a kit -- but alas I live in California. I like the idea of using a reprogrammed ECU -- but I have the CARB to deal with and living in LA, I have the level-2 Dyno smog checks too (Dyno) Though I guess I don't have to get a smog check for another 3 years, but UGH.

But what about this question guys -- with the Mazdaspeed turbo coming out, those parts should be available at the dealer. The turbo manifold, ECU, etc. The Mazdaspeed ECU will be smog legal. According to my friend who talked to some mazda techs about the car, he told me they told him it was a remapped ECU with larger injectors -- but everything else was the same including the MAF. And engine itself is basically the same.

Swapping the entire drivetrain from a newer Mazdaspeed car sold in California into an earlier Protege would be totally leagal ..

And with the stocker manifolds bolted on to a stock manifold, the smog inspector wouldn't be able to tell much else? With a remapped ECU, it should still pass tailpipe OK.

Interesting interesting.....

Adrianblack...I see you just joined our site...welcome to the family...grab a cold one and enjoy the site. :D

I would be very interested in purchasing a quality turbo kit. This question may have already been addressed but how much would it cost to upgrade the cheaper kit into the 200+HP kit if one wanted to purchase the cheaper one for now. Then save for the clutch upgrade and break upgrade as well as getting the necessary parts to upgrade the cheaper kit to the more expensive kit. Will such a package be available? It would be possible right? As others have stated pic's, performance spec's...etc will need to be given before I can serioiusly consider the packages. Don't get me wrong I think the kits sound the best I've heard so far:D But with any great investment we need all the info so to compare with what else is available and then make (hopefully) a wise choice.

Keep up the great work!

I used to be worried abou smog checks, but I recently discovered some shady smog technicians in my area. So the smog thing is no longer a problem. I'm sure if you guys were to look around or ask some of your turbo'd Honda friends, they'd point you in the right direction. Looks like de-cating and Turboing my MP3 could be in my future if I can straighten out my finances. If we have shady techs up here in NorCal, I'm sure there are some down there in SoCal.

We will try to keep the low end kit totally smog legal and CARB approved if possible. However removing the front cat does hinder our chances slightly, but it may still be possible. The Mazdaspeed kit comes with the factory injectors as far as I know and I am not sure about their engine managment solution? We are working on 2 different chips, one for the low end kit and one for the bigger injectors. As soon as I have final pricing, dyno graphs and pictures i will post them with the Admins permission.

Sweet! I can't wait!

I've heard about this startling loss of 42hp also from several places and it sounds like it is probably true. But also about an upgrade that gives 166whp and 432wtq which sounds nuts but I'm not very well versed in automotive mathmatics and just try to find people and companies with good reputations.

See now you guys could be my savior, as far as waiting to put the turbo on. I have everything accept something for the cpu and the fuel. When will the price be announced, and will it just be a packaged deal, or a piece by piece deal.

There will be a kit price and then an upgraded options price for some of the pieces like the fuel system and the ECU. I will update you on firm pricing as soon as we are closer to the release of the kits. Thanks for the replies guys.

Brett.

Also, a list of trusted shops who can install them, and WHERE the shops are would be nice too...

We are working on seeing which dealers would be interested in these kits and also doing installs. I will have some more information and pictures hopefully by Friday. Thanks for the interest guys.
