Tune-UP???

2008 MazdaSpeed 3
I have a mazdaSpeed 3 with about 75,000 and I have cobb intake hks blowoff and I have my car boosted to about 21psi and I have rear engine mount I was wondering what else cheap is worth getting for it. and I need help I have never had a Tune-Up and does anyone know a recomended milage for that also I have backfire sometimes when shifting at like 4 or 5 rpm could this mean I need new sparkplugs.
 
yea I have it setup for that it just started doing it within the last 5,000 I think its the spark-plugs im kicking black smoke when Im getting high rpm at full boost
 
Do you have a professional tune or do you use a boost controller? If not I wouldn't worry about a 'tune-up', because I don't think you will be needing one...especially if you are on stock internals
 
At 60,000 I did:

-Oil change
-Transmission Fluid Change
-Spark Plugs (I'd maybe suggest going 1-step colder for you)
-Cabin Air Filter

Also check the service manual, it should give a clear indication on what needs done. But the spark plugs should help out a lot with your hesitation.
 
WOAL, you have a aftermarket wastegate set for 21psi?? I would say that's a good receipe for zoom zoom that goes boom boom...with our cars and stock parts I wouldn't go pass 18psi especially without some sort of tune.

As for the black smoke that's cuz the car is running way rich so that's not really a big deal mine does the same thing when it cooler out, better to be black smoke then white I can say that much...
 
When I had catless dp/rp,it spiked to 23psi when was cold outthere.I was kinda scraed that my car goes zoom zoom boom on stock tune!!!
 
yea im going to get new spark plugs this week and see how those work out Im pretty sure that will fix my problem

indeed it is.

stop boosting to 21psi with the stock turbo. especially without a tune. you are mistaken if you think you are getting 21psi through your upper rpm's. you can command that pressure all you want, the K04 is not doing it on the stock tune. i guarantee your fuel pump is dropping pressure and you are getting knock.

lower your boost.

while spark plugs aren't the problem if they are correctly gapped for the boost level you are running. when was the last time they were changed?
 
I'm still trying to get my arms around that "21 psi upgraded wastegate." WTF is OP talking about? Does he have the solenoid wastegate controller bypassed? Is he running MBC? Is he running on wastgate spring alone? We have an internal wastegate in the turbo. What has he done or had done to his car? Very spooky and OP does not sound like he knows what has been done to his car. How is he monitoring?

If he actually has 75,000 miles on the car and is not just playing games with us, yeah, his plugs probably need to be replaced. And unless he has some ECU control to lower boost at high rpm, he's either not telling us the full story or that "21 psi upgraded wastegate" is a recent addition. Engine ain't gonna take a steady diet of 21 psi boost at high rpm. Insane.

OP: ? ? ? ? You gotta tell us a whole lot more and shoot straight with it.
