TSB question

Okay so after searching a bit on how TSB works, is it safe to assume that I'm screwed if I want a TSB done but my car is already out of the 3/36k warranty? The TSB in question is:

"MTOL - 5636 Dealer Repair Information
Symptom and Conditions

Some customers may experience a chattering noise when passing over bumps
and/or driving on a rough roads, that may be confused as a dash rattle
at the base of the windshield.

Condition may be the result of a stick slips noise that occurs between
the cowl grill and the windshield."

So, does this mean I'm taking the hit in dealership fees? Oh and I've got aftermarket mounts.

no, bring it in and they should do the repair for free. however im sure theyre gonna blame your mounts. be sure to print out the tsb and wave it in their face if they give you any grief

Go to a different dealership. If you bring in a copy of the TSB and tell the service writer you're experiencing the symptoms listed, then they will verify and apply the fix, warranty or not. That dealer is trying to hose you.

So I've been to 3 dealerships so far, all have said that they will not do anything as my car is no longer under warranty, despite having the TSB notice in hand. None will look further unless I agree to pay for the inspection and diagnosis fee + whatever else fixes need to be done. Looks like I'm taking the bite on this one.

call Mazda NA and find out directly from them. I had a TSB on an 8 yr old pontiac with 60k miles and got that fixed, granted i needed to twist a few arms...

mazda NA are punks and they will just back their dealers decisions and say that since theres no warranty they wont work on it for free. OP if you want the issue fixed you will have to pay something to the dealer. Since its a TSB they shouldnt charge you for any actual parts

Will this noise go away when the weather gets warmer. RIght now in Philadelphia it has been between 10-maybe 40 degrees out. When it warms up in the spring, will that noise go away?

it will be reduced, but not gone. i got mine fixed about a month ago. its 8 new clips and some new adhesive to the base of the windshield

Got my TSB done Dec. '08. Dealership had accidentally ordered two sets of the pads to be installed. They went ahead and put both sets on since they thought it would only help the issue.

This week, it has been really cold down here in northern Florida (20s in the morning and 40s during the day). I have had no rattles from the windshield. But the glove box has been a different story. It's always something!!! (argh)

the infamous glovebox rattle, just saw another thread on it. From what I have read, it's not actually the glovebox, but something underneath. Other than that rattle, my car is solid, so I am gonna hunt that one down sometime soon
