Trying to work a deal on a used MSP

I have told you all about this used MSP here in Diego for $18,495. Well I went in to test drive it and see how bad the dealer would (upbum) me on a trade. The MSP was much zippier than I had expected and met all of my high expectations! I have a 99' S-Dime and have had little luck selling it. I have been getting offers since I was selling it for $10,500 back in January but people just fell thru. The dealer tried to tell me that blue book was $7,875 and they first offered me $5,500 then came back to me with $6,200. I about $h!t myself. So today I checked the blue book and it was $9,410 for private party and $6,980 on trade in just as I expected. Plus they would not budge on the price. So the trade in they want to give me cuts my downpayment by more than half and kills the deal on the monthly payments. I guess the deal is a bust cuz' I am happy with my truck and don't need to sell it but would like to get into something fun with passenger room. Damn the car is fun to drive!

Take your time, truck looks nice and will eventually sell, and there will be good alternatives to purchase once you sell the truck. No sense screwing yourself on the sale so you can take advantage of a "good deal" on the purchase! By the time you net it out, you're net negative on the deal - if you lose $1500 on the truck to buy a car at $18,500, you may as well sell the truck for $1500 more and buy a car for $20,000. It's just math... and patience! Good luck to you!

Yeah, I think reality is hitting me and I am going to forget all about Mazda's or any new car. I am sick of paying rent for an apartment and my truck will be paid off in a little over a year so that will be some extra dough to get into a condo or house! And if it sells in the meantime I will take the profit to buy an older Trooper and have some fun off roading! This board is great and I am bummed that I won't be a Mazda owner now. But there is always the future!

hehe You and Strong bad are always welcome

Oh chit that reminds me forgot to check the new one from Monday.

*runs off quickly*

btw nice S10, friend owns a 99 Xtreme and nice handling for a truck and even some cars.

I know exactly which dealer that is. Since I bought my red P5 there on 4/15. I thought they were taking me to the cleaners on my trade too until I went to 3 other dealers and got trade estimates within a couple hundered dollars of the first. In the end I went with JH because they had the best price on the P5 I wanted. The problem with trades in general right now is that the market is flooded with them because of all of the new car incentives. Kbb and edmunds don't really factor market conditions when determining the value of the vehicle. SoCal is especially bad. In the end it's only worth what they can sell it for, which isn't going to be much when you can buy a NEW Truck for under $12K.

P.S. When I was there on 4/15 picking up my car they had 3 used MSPs (2 orange, 1 black) They must have sold the other 2. Funny thing was that they had them parked not 15 feet away from 3 new SRT4s.

3 MSP's? I work just down the road and I only know of the one orange one next door at the dodge dealer. They even told me that it had been there for 3 weeks, but I know it has been 4 maybe 5 weeks. I know that the mazda dealer has 2 black ones and one orange one but they are brand new...

I honestly didn't look at the stickers on all three but the Dodge side of that dealer is where the used cars are and they were all parked in a line in front facing the street. Maybe the wholesaled the other 2 out or just had them parked over there to get cleaned up. The lot attentants were washing cars right there at the time. That's actually why I was over there, I was waiting for them to put the load bars on my rack and wash the car since it had been in their storage lot for a while. So I got bored and walked around.

Yeah, I wasn't in town that weekend and half of the week. The 15th was my B-day and I was snowboarding in Mammoth and kicking it in Long Beach.

Dunno, if it was me, for the price difference I would wait a few weeks and get a 2003.5 new. I would have probably purchased the speed if it weren't for the fact that I actually use the wagon and I will NEVER buy a car that requires me to put 91 in it.

Yeah, I was pretty set on getting a P5 cuz' I like the look and the versatility, but the used speed was intriguing (SP) priced at $18,495. I was going to get a P5 with leather and the works so it would have been around $17,500. I knew I wouldn't be able to do it trading in my truck but I wanted to know the numbers and test driving it was a BLAST! Zoom Zoom...

John Hine right???

nevermind i read above. Just don't go with Cush. I used to work there. You will get a better price at hine. Also the used speed used to be 19,500. I almost bought it but I wanted black.

I agree Hine for price. If you need to go for service Wescott has great customer service and techs that are no worse than any others in town.

Hine is actually pretty good. Much better than Cush. I go there even though I'm in Escondido. If you do go to Hine see Alan Smith. He is the man.
