I am in the need for the trunk interior molding/panels/boards. I was at a junk yard yesterday and found many 626's(not sure of years) and one 02 protege 5. Does anyone know if either of those trunk peices would fit the mp3?

almost certianly not. any 99-03 sedan should do the trick. I don't believe there were any changes made in the trunk. possible that some of em got tan trunks? idk.

the 626's seemed to be a little bit bigger and the 5 seemed to be a little bit shorter, but without measurements or confirmation i am not sure

The Protege5 will for sure be ALL different. I have a P5 and MP3 in my driveway right now and I can tell you for sure that all the trunk/hatch panels are totally different.

touche... I started thinking "any sedan" and didn't get off that track. my bad. lol the MP3 didn't get upgraded brakes did it? cuz the standard spare won't work on an MSP as it doesn't clear the calipers.

really? that's news to me... how did you find that out?

tried to put the spare on my car that came with it... (2nd owner)...

on the front it made solid contact with the caliper... wouldn't turn

on the rear it just barely touched...

previous owner said he must have accidentally switched it with his ES...

I should add as a disclaimer here that the previous owner is both a ricer and a moron... and I believe also put the wrong rear rotors on the car. so... grain of salt.

well the moron must've mixed up from a different car because I just looked it up and all of the spare wheels are the same on the P5/ES/MP3/MSP... 15x4 wheels... the P5/ES uses a narrower tire (T115/70D15) than the MSP/MP3 (T135/70D15)... there's only 2 different part numbers for the spare wheels themselves in the parts catalog... one for 4 lugs (2 wheel disc brakes), and 5 lugs (4 wheel disc brakes)

so it really doesn't matter what car it is... they'll all fit fine, just that using a P5/ES spare tire won't work as good on the MP3 but it'll be ok

wonder wtf this came off of then.... oh well, its sitting in my rents garage underneath junk neway. thanks for the heads up.

it's still possible it "came from his ES"... don't you think it's possible that if he bought his ES used, whoever sold it/had it before lost the spare and just got some random s*** that fit the ES from the junk yard? then with the non-factory spare that's in that ES, somehow gets mixed up with your MSP before it was sold to you
