Trim around stock stereo

How on earth do you remove this???? The HVAC controls will not pull out far enough to facilite its removal.

You have to unhook the Hazard flasher button. Also if you're going to pull it completely out, you'll have to unhook the heater control cables fron the heater box.

All Im trying to do is pull the stereo, is it necessary for me to unhook the HVAC cables or is there a trick to it? Im trying to install a Kenwood single DIN CD player. The dude at the Circuit City here in Utah is an idiot giving me an install kit for a 2000 Protege sedan, which if Im not mistaken had a single DIN reciever where the P5 reciever is double DIN or DIN 1/2. Any input is welcome. Thanks 1garnetredlx for the reply.

you don't need to pull out the trim to remove the stereo. i think sirnuke did a how to on removing the stock stereo. it is kind of a b**** to remove. but it can be done without taking off the trim. if you really want to take off the trim, someone else posted how to remove it. you need to remove a couple of cables (temp control and another one). i believe the 2000 protege also has a double din stereo. i just happened to get an oil change right before i installed my kenwood and had the dealer remove my stereo for free.

here's the how to on removing the trim
