Transmisson's effed! HELP!

First off my third gears been messed up, it grinds and pops when I put it into gear.

I was on my way home showing my friend how a manual transmission worked, so i decided to rip it, I brought it up to 6 rpm put it in 3rd, and I noticed that I lost power. I put it into neutral to take a turn, and I noticed that it started to buck. So I tried to put it into 2nd, and it wouldn't go into gear. Then I came to a complete stop, and it stalled out in neutral. I tried putting it into first it wouldn't go in, so I tried all the gears. 1st 2nd and 5th wont go into gear, and 3rd and 4th are absolutly useless. I drove home in neutral (so weird haha) When I got home I tried putting it into reverse and now it won't come out of reverse. The car doesn't move anymore.

I'm thinking the forks are bent maybe? Any ideas? Do I need a new transmission? How did I manage to do that? And is it my fault that that happened?

also, how much do you guys think it'll cost to fix. I'm gunna call AMMCO on Tuesday. Does anyone have any experience with them?

I had the same thing pretty much happen to my first manual transmission. I just replaced the transmission as I had a friend that had one. I always assumed it was the forks were bent just like yourself. The cost of the transmission will most likely vary, but I would imagine your asking in the right forum to find one at a great price.

I always had a major problem with 3rd gear in my 2002 P5 and I am also pretty sure that there are quite a few others with the same problem. My current transmission came from a 2003 and has been nothing but great!

Good luck to you!

my father in law works for AAMCO. they are privately owned franchises that operate like independent shops under one banner. the name itself really means very little, it all comes down to that individual shop and the people working there. i would check around and garner some local opinion if you are really concerned.

you will spend a lot of money to have a transmission rebuilt. easily $1500 to $2500 for the parts, labor, R&R involved. and that depends on hourly shop rate in your area as well as how bad they feel like stiffing you ;) your best bet is to grab a used trans and have them throw it in or do it yourself. its really not a bad job to do on your own or with a buddy and you'll pay a fraction of what it would take to rebuild it.

in fact, they will probably recommend a reman (if available) or used unit before anything.

Uhhhh this sucks! I talked with my friends, and we came to the conclusion that 3rd gear probabaly exploded/broke and all the pieces r jamming the gears. How much would it cost to buy a different transmission?

If I do buy a new transmission does it have to be from our car, or can I take one off a different car, or would that not fit correctly?

no, the 3rd gear didn't really break, your shift fork did... it broke because you slammed it into gear as fast and hard as you could like most people years ago when they first bought their P5 and MP3s did... fast and the furious style

you already knew your 3rd gear was grinding, so you abusing it is what really made it break

So, is it really going to cost 1.5k-2.5k to fix? My friends dad owns a junk yard, he said he'll take a look tomorrow for me. I'm guessing I can use the 02 or 03 transmissions only?

Ya, I would recommend the 03 as I have had much better of an experience with it. That price also seems accurate.

out here in cali they are around 300- 500 at the junk yards..... it took me about 2 hours to replace...if you know anybody just have them help you do it its not worth spending over 2g for a transmission with install imo

So I came to the conclusion that I'm going to buy a used transmission from a junk yard if my friend can find me one, he should be able to. And I figured, since I already have the transmission open I might as well add a new flywheel and a clutch. So I figured I'd get the Exedy Stage 1 Clutch, and the Fidanza 7lb Aluminum Flywheel from protegegarage. And along with all that I'll add a TWM short throw.

The 03 transmission is comparable with the 02 correct? Sorry if I'm repeating, I just wanna be certain before i make any major purchases

both transmissions are essentially the same and will bolt right up to the engine. the reason people are recommending 03 trannys is they have a stronger forks. 2002.5 tranny also has the upgraded forks as well i believe.

I am having a similar issue, but it only seems to happen after about 30 min or so of driving, before that it shifts smooth. It will give me problems mostly in 1,2,and 5.
