Transmission Problems (Reverse) Help...

Car is a 2008 MS3
Currently has 942 miles on it.

I get in my car and go to put it into reverse and it does not want to go in. I was like weird so I try again and the shifter does not want to push down for me to get it into reverse. I push it out of my driveway and drive to the dealership. They tell me that service is closed and to bring it back monday. I tell them I can't b/c I am in a Police Academy so they tell me to bring it next sat at 10:00 a.m., frustrated I say whatever.

Leaving the dealership I had to basically slam down the shift lever to get it to go down so that I could get the car in reverse. After that I had to lift the shift lever up so that I could proceeded on my way. What do you guys think broke?

I know it's under warranty I am just pissed b/c the car doesn't even have 1k on it yet.

montalvo - pops told me about your problem, hope it gets worked out. hope everything is going well in the academy.

Sounds like the something is blocking the pin or spring on the lever itself from going up and down. I seriously doubt the issue is inside the transmission.
It'll be easy to see the problem if you could just remove the shift boot like shardriver said. It's actually quite easy to remove and put back:

I don't think you need to remove any screws either, just unscrew the shift-knob and lift on the area shown in steps 3 and 4 of the link above. Of course don't tell the dealer you did this.
