Ok, so I replaced my LSD about 9 months ago. And the other when I was driving home from snowboarding, my car slipped out of 5th gear like 4 or 5 times on the way home. I figured the car was low on fluid or something and that I could fix it when I got home, except all of a sudden it wouldnt go into 5th at all and was grinding horrendously even when not in gear. I coasted to a burger king and had it towed the next day. When under the car I noticed the drivers side axle was like 1/8th of an inch out of the trannsmission. So i pounded it in and assumed maybe the car was super low on gear oil becuase of that, and filled it up with what I had in the garage. (about 1.5 quarts)
So i started the car up again and when I let out the clutch at all the grind came back. It is a horrendous sound, like something it broken in there. So I pushed it into the garage and put it on stands and pulled the end cap off by 5th and reverse to take a look. (its worth noting that I could not get the car into 5th or reverse at this point, but 1-2-3-4 worked fine. So i figured maybe the shift fork on 5th and reverse was bad or something)
Anyways, So I had my buddy go through the gears while I watched the transmission with the end cap off and 1-2 went fine. But I noticed when he hit 3-4, it bumped the fork a little for 5th and reverse. So I started thinking that little lockout plate for reverse was ****** up and some how getting hit when he was in 3 or 4. So when I told him to go back to 1-2 and then directly to 5th, it went straight in with no issues.
I was trying my best to at least diagnose the problem before I went through the hassle of pulling the transmission if I didn't need to, So i was hoping someone can give me and idea of what I am dealing with. Thanks for any help.
