 Does anyone's transmission make a grinding noise while shifting from 1st to 2nd?
Every time I try shifting from 1st to 2nd at about 5000 rpm my transmission grinds and i have to slow down before i can put it in gear!!

Try pushing in the clutch farther. When going from first to second in first, you have to push in the clutch very far in order to keep it from doing this.

Good luck getting that tranny petition to work! The dsm trannies have had this problem since day one, 12yrs later, still no recall. Understand that recalls are really "safety recalls", manufacturers don't do them unless there is evidence of someone getting killed or injured by the failing part. You may get mazda to come up with a fix for the problem, in which case it will be repaired under warranty, but if you're out of your warranty then you're going to foot the bill.

Here's a suggestion though. Replace your transmission fluid with Redline MT-90, that will clean up the shifts quite a bit. Also, order the Kartboy shifter bushing. It's incredibly easy to install and makes the gates more predictable, so you're not hunting to find them as much.

Sorry I don't have that problem, try what BigBen said, sometimes we all want to shift too quickly. But if you do do that, get it checked.

I wanted to ask you guys 'cause I didn't find anything on the tranny problems section. Do you hear a pulsing wrrrrr noise when making a sustained right turn(ie. on an on-ramp) when in gear?

It's like this:

sound wrrrrr .........wrrrrr...........wrrrrr........wrrrrr
Time (s) 1 2 3 4

The time interval gets smaller as I go faster in a turn, disappers when I go straight. Thought it might be the CV joint but its not there if I take the turn in neutral. I was thinking I might the normal sound of the differential kicking in.

If any of you had this and gotten it checked out please let me know!!!

Thanks:cool:

it does sound like your CV joint. I had the same problem with a Honda Civic about 2 months ago.

I bet the sound will get louder as you accelerate around a turn.

If you don't get it fixed it will start making noise going strait.
