Transmission gear inquiry

Last time I spoke with PAR they still offer helical gears, didn't go into detail with them as if its modified helical profile or not but they claimed that side load will break the tranny eventually.

I have in contact a gearset manufacture that can make gears, the price for a set of straight cut 3rd gear will be around 400$ or less, the manufacture have contract with Honda, Bombardier etc is a big enterprise, they can make me some set of gears if I get enough people for it.

I think you can elaborate on if that manufacture will actually study somewhat our tranny before making "stronger" gears since things are related to each other that means solving one issue will bring you to the next to take care or else will fail again ex. side load, case cracking/breaking etc.

Talked to Gerard two weeks ago. No more helicals. He's sending me a stock ratio straight cut 3rd next week.

damn, its been awhile since last time so they pulled the plug already.

I don't mind the straight gears but damn to loud for others when they car-pool lol

He would know, this dude eats through PAR gears like fat kids eat cake! (birthday)

But really he is the only person I know of to have trouble with the gears, there was a 323 with a msp engine in puerto rico and it was making mad hp. It had PAR gears and the gears didnt break but they split the tranny case in half!!!!! So what im trying to say is that im sure he knows what he is talking about.

Hahaha, that's funny. But really, my problem wasn't that the gears couldn't take the power (I only run the stock turbo @14psi at most) it was the long term wear of the gears being my daily driver, and the fact that I didn't change the gear oil every 3k, and the previous owner probably didn't either. PAR was very good to me, because when they sold me a replacement ring gear, they didn't mention the oil change intervals, and then I broke 5th gear, and after that they mentioned it....too little too late though. That's why I make sure everyone knows that these gear sets are high maintenance.

Figured I'd bump this thread with my newly found flutter/humming coming from my PAR 3rd gear today. Not good at all :(

Hope things work out, but don't wait too long to check things out. Like I said, in less than a week I'll have a straight cut stock ratio 3rd gear, from PAR. Brand new. There's one guy on here from Norway I believe that may want it. You should get it looked at soon.

Not really. I just got really pissed because I bought gears from them twice, and two times they failed to mention the gear oil change intervals, and that spur cuts were not good for daily driving. So they helped me out in a sense, to shut me up. They're good guys and try to make things right, they just messed up by not relaying essential info to me.

I have had many conversations with Gerard myself and other than telling I needed to use neo fluid but no mention of gear oil changes of 3k. I have a 2mile drive to work every day so I actually only put about 9k miles in the past 2 years with 3 oil changes so I should honestly not be having these issues. The thing that sucks is going to be the down time. Single dad 2 kids one car no bueno!

I just checked their website it mentions oil change frequency and they also added Motul along with NEO. Also mentioned a better material being used now on all parts.
I'm going to shoot them a message.

He didn't say exactly 3k miles, he said to change as frequent as engine oil would be a good rule. They did also say the material quality was improved. I wouldn't jump the gun and assume your gears are shot, but at least call and ask what the humming could be from.

It's faint but there is enough of a thumping sound to assume there is some interference and friction and it is not good.

I'm avoiding 3rd altogether! Shoot me a price on that 3rd (dbl synchro needle bearing?) set you have just in case PAR decides to give me a hard time
