Transmision jumps out of gear

Hi There , I am having a problem with my 2007 cx9. When I am driving on the freeway in 6th gear , and I try to accelerate . The transmision steps down to 5th gear with a very load thud and once in awhile it jumps out of gear all together. All I have to do is put gear selector in neutral and then back in drive, and it goes into gear again. And it only does this in 6th gear going down to 5th gear, not in any other change.
Anybody else had this problem?

Well, is it out of warranty yet? 5yr/60K for powertrain.
If not, let dealer take care of it.
If yes, do a transmission fluid change first to see if that fixes the issue (hopefully!).
It should cost about $120-$150 USD.
Good luck.

Bruce, Ceric is right.

Also, if dealer comes back and says trans is shot and needs replacement/overhaul/rebuild, etc, you may want to consider a used, low mileage transmission from a reputable salvage yard and have a reputable transmission shop replace it. Good salvage vendors will sell warranty plans for various durations. Also, a lot of transmission shops are able to overhaul/rebuild transmissions when a lot of dealers will only replace transmissions. Case in point: In my professional dealings, I had a honda dealer who told a customer her only option was trans replacement due to a broken shifter rod which goes through the entire length of the housing. The only way to replace the rod was to dis-assemble the entire trans, replace the rod, and put it back together. We had a local trans shop (Powers Transmissions in Kentucky) perform the work. This blew the Honda dealers mind.
