Hay whats up guys my buddy has a 98 626 with the 2.0 and auto tranny, and its starting to act up. Just wondering what route would be better to go.

whats going on.
from 1st to 2nd you have to play with the throttle a lil bit for it to shift but the car will shift into the 2nd. From 2nd to 3rd it shifts perfectly fine, but when the tranny tries to get into 4th it just wont do it.

The OD light blinks too, if you press the button the tranny will shift down/up but the light is always blinking.

After extended driving the fluid will actually burn up and start to come out of the breather tube thats connected to tranny pan. He has flushed the system and replaced the fluid and there where not metal shards int he fluid.

Could the filter be clogged and cause there to not be enough pressure in the tranny from the fluid to shift?

Or

Is a rebuild/new tranny the only solution?

Thanks in advance for the help.

There should be a code if the OD light is flashing. I do not remember the proceedure for pulling the codes though.

A guess off the top of my head is the solenoids in the valve body are going out. You best bet is to get a different transmission.

What is involved in a 5 speed swap? I have a car set up for a 5 speed v6 and have a wrecked 4 cylinder auto with low miles to do a transplant, but would love to keep it a 5 speed.

The moment you start it up and put it in gear it moves fine its mainly the shifting that it is having issue's with. 1st to second you have to rev to 4k and let off then it pops into 2nd. 2nd to 3rd is cake. However it does not want ot get out of 3rd what ever you try. Now when we took up the front oil pan it clearly says "ford" on it. The oil did get cooked pretty good and down below we did drain out the oil and put fresh tranny fluid in. Even after this it still does the same though. Once in gear though it dont slip it just does not want to shift properly. Now this is a CD4E transmission for a 4 cylinder some people state there is a "filter" inside this, other say there is not one. So im mainly confused on that. I do realise this a pressure system so improper pressues' can result in improper shifting. I also did read that when the o/d light comes on it enter's a "fail safe" and jacks the PSI from 100 to 400. However i can not quite verify if this is true or not.

Automatic '92-'02 626's aren't the greatest. As you've found out, Ford built the automatics for these, and they're junk. Some say that they can't be rebuilt. I think that's bs. Check for a filter, but I'd take the car to a reputable transmission shop to have it checked.

hey guys i have a 2000 mazda protege ES 5speed.In the morning when i first start driving the car the tranny feels smooth when i shift it, after about 2 or 3 hrs the tranny feels hard to shift, i had gear oil before and it was bad now i have syncro mesh, what do u guys think the problem could be? any help will be appreciated thanks

i did it and also i change the shifter bar and is working perfect, but i have another issue to see i u can help me. when i start driving my car the car feels powerful but after several hours driving it it i feel like the car is loosing power. it's weird because it has a 50.000 MILLES motor, new clucth kit. do u have any idea about it?? thanks

Nope, don't have anything for that one. Anytime my car feels slower to me, it's because I've been in it too long, or I've just driven something faster.

yeah men. because sometimes when the car feels like that, i look at the RPMs and match them with the speed and is the same as when i first drive it in the mornings. bro thanks

The problem is the junk trans in those cars...you really are best off swapping to a 5 speed or buy a 5 speed car.
