Tranmission help

So I blew my motor two months ago ... got a built block on the way. Meanwhile, my engine bay is completely empty, engine and tranny sitting on the garage floor. So I realize this is the ideal opportunity to get into the tranny and have the LSD welded while I'm waiting on the block. I split the tranny case, get inside and find a broken metal piece stuck to the magnet ... what the heck is this thing?? Any ideas??? It doesn't look too good.

Does the tip of the piece cover the drain plug hole(bottom one)?

I have a piece of metal that slightly covers the hole.

Same thing the tranny shop had to replace when my lsd blew.
don't know what it is though.

Do you know what the part cost to replace?? Thanks!

And it would make sense to break parts inside the tranny if something like the LSD breaks, but how could this have happened when my engine blew?

Something in your transmission might have been already broke..

Im trying to picture what that could be.. Kind of hard to tell with metal shavings on the end of it.. I have quite a few pics of the inside of my transmission in another thread..

That piece IS the little mechanism that is supposed to prevent you from shifting into reverse by accident. Technically it isn't needed so long as you don't imagine that the MSP has a six speed!
