Trading in the msp....check out what the mazda manager said.

Well considering right now the MSP original has a sticker with rebate of 18,500...

and its the last of the 2003's... 12,000 for an initial salesman quote doesn't seem all that bad... think about it...

a 2003 had nearly 4000 in mark downs around here dragging it from 17.5k to around 13.5k... i didnt want a civic but just because our car is limited... doesnt mean it will hold its value the 1st year its out as much as other cars...

put the car in your paper in the spring once its warm, put "turbo", sound system, anything to clarify this thing isnt a regular protege...

i love the car and i think its more than speedy enough compared to other cars out there...

for 19k what else do you want, the WRX is a firm 30 grand...

Only read the first page of posts... what a bunch of BS this is!! This dude needs to grow up and stop crying about this car!!! If he hates it so much... WHY DID HE BUY IT???? STUPID ASS!!! sure, this car has some shortcomings but... all in all, it's a great car. Show me ANY car in which you're not going to lose a signifcant amount of value within a few months of buying it!! Thats just HOW IT IS!! Sucks I know... we all do. But don't come on here bitching about the car and how much it sucks just because you fukced up by buying a car you didn't like and now have to suffer the consequences.

yeh i kinda know all the sad reponses by now.

why you get it??, because i felt like it and its free country.

why dont you sell it?? because i dont want to give my car away for practically nothing and i owe more then how much its worth.

Buy another car then? I will soon as i can sell this one.

why do you hate the msp??? i don't hate the car, its just not the car for me.

I'm not even complaining, you guys are asking the questions i'm answering them. Do I have to justify my purchase to you guys?? are you paying my car payements?? didn't think so. Grow up.

AutoX,

Try carmax here Dulles. Let me know what you'll do.

SO Rosenthall has 13 evo's in stock. They are in the SAME boat... no one wants them, even for our D.C. Area. See if they'll work with you.

Any way you go, let me know!

In contrast, I find the MSP to be very comfortable and I have no probs with the shifter. Maybe you were just too accustomed to the civc you had?

acctualy people are only paying around 21k out the door for their 2004, according to a bunch of people on srtforums, but yes this is off topic my bad

I was able to get one for $21,500 with a $10,000 trade in for my MP3.

GUYS YOU ONLY PAY 16-18K FOR THE CAR AND COMPARE ANY OTHER CARS OUT THERE WITHIN THIS RANGE, i DON'T THINK ANYTHING WILL COME CLOSE TO IT. DO YOU EVER THING ABOUT MAY BE IS OUR DRIVING STYLE AND HABIT THAT KILL OUR CAR. AFTER ALL IS A NEW CAR, SHOULD YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEM JUST BRING IT BACK. THE WAY I SEE IT. IT REALLY MAKE NO DIFFERENCE WHAT YOU BUY, THERE WILL BE SOMETHING THAT YOU HAVE TO b**** AND COMPLIANT ABOUT. THAT IS JUST MY $0.02.

well here is my few cents...

autox sorry to dissapoint you but i dont think u did the right research .. msp wasnt really winning all the comparos of sport sedans .. i think it was the focus svt and later the neon srt .. i say **** the neon but the svt could have been a good choice

end of year, rebate time, first year depreciation all adds up and thats why the huge drop ..
some suggest private party sell .. off course you'll be better off ..

personnally i would never trade anything in b\c i cant see how a middle man (especially a car salesman) can make a deal for you .. ever

the whole story of calling the mazda dlr for a trade in value is BS b\c they just want to knock you off the track and give you a low enough number so you can accept whatever ripp off price they are willing to offer .. key word ripp off price

now look at this way .. and i think you already concluded that as well ... car has 4yr warranty .. its drivable (wheels, engine, stereo) perhaps not pleasurable but that you can get from that hot blond HS chick that will go for it

im kinda of in the same boat .. had a 99 si .. loved it .. got stolen .. looked at evo ( sorry but sti sucks in my opinion), rx8 kinda, focus svt (talk about sitting high), g35 coupe (overpriced), rsx-s (sweet ride but i have issues withthe shell plus my best friend got it because of my si so couldnt copy) and few others and decided to go cheap and invest my money somewhere else

got a p5 in august .. test drived a silver one it was horrible i thought the car gonna fall apart .. i only went to test drive it b\c i was buying it blindly over a phone with another dlr and liked the pricing 2250 off plus student 500

ohh i forgot to mention after 4 yrs my 99 si was worth 14650 bought at 18.5 only lost 4k in 4yrs and i got back 1200 in taxes so practically only 2500 depreciation

so the under 15k out the door p5 was decent buy to me .. again performance not in mind i think to this time i dont know the exact power rating on it even though im on the forum every day for about a month now

i bought this thing for the second best after performance which is looks .. i can bear with it b\c its drivable ... discs brakes, crossbars, make ok to drive engine is ok in traffic because of the tourqe ... other then that accelaration is pathetic .... i can practically snooze in 2nd, in 3rd i can take a reeal good nap .. but i make the best off it anyways

after being here for a while im leaning towards and ready to conclude that upgrades wont do s*** for me .. turbos give a funny power band ... it really makes me laugh .. reall high 2-4k rpm and drops down after that .. its like it blows a buble, explodes and then the cars stops .. im kind of used to just getting it going then from my prev car

i use mine as a grand tourer ... its comfortable .. big props for the wipers and hvac, i was very pleased with the stereo and changer , in fact after i got into mine at dealer i was quite surprised with the interior ... it was like the opposite of the test drive .. friends like the second set of doors .. the trunk/hatch will get used for an upcoming trip

money saved on evo is paying off on the investment .. so im pretty happy with the overal outcome .. in fact if i met the guys that stole my si i woud buy them a drink ... and couple more if they agreed to steel the p5 in spring

so if i may suggest do the same drive it hard and enjoy whats there to enjoy and look forward to better things .. i get caught by my friends talking more about the evo then my car too .. so what

if it really drives you nuts test the market in hot seasons like spring and early summer .. put a sign in your window for about 2 months .. if nothing keep it around till next year .. eventually your bound to run into an enthusiast who values that car for the things he finds attractive in it

and last thing .. somebody along the way mentioned the new si's .. here is the truth ppl .. THEY SUCK .. ITS AN AMERICAN LOW BLOW... honestly the only thing good about them is the short shifter mounted on the dashboard .. but ppl like bought previous si's for the engine this engine is s*** ... and there is no lying about it .. it shoudl have the engine from the rsx-s like in eu and japan.. then i would still be in it

no ******* s***. i coulda told that you wont get more than 12k for a mazdaspeed protege. **** the trade in, dude. dont be lazy, ******* sell it privately. and stop bitching. i hate your whining as much as you hate your car. Youre not "stuck" go get another job, sell the car in the local paper, whatever. you can do whatever the **** you want, but if im gonna have to read more of your complaining about a car you dont want, im gonna explode.

Bravo!!! (usa)
My car has been close to perfect and it has over 24000 miles on it now. The only "real" issue I have is the clunk and it took about 20,000 miles to show up. In all other regards my car has been a real joy to drive. I spend over 2 hrs a day in this car and it is always a pleasent experience. I guess maybe I got a "magic" MSP:rolleyes:

talk about irony....just got the news that my mp3 finally sold about an hour ago, and the best thing is, is that it's being shipped out of town so I don't have to look at it again.

Guys, leave him alone. So he wants out of the speed, big deal. The man is allowed to have an opinion, he is also allowed to make a mistake. I say good luck to you, hope it works out, and if you get an EVO come take me for a spin :)

Why does every thread around here turn out the same way? Reminds me of a certain other protege forum.....hmm.....wonder why.

Autox MSP said:

The protege doen't have a first gear syncro coming from the mazda rep so its gonna not like going in to first. Also the shifter feel going from 1st to 2nd feels like the tranny wants to grind, its just very notchy. I drove a 03.5 and it didn't feel this bad but, since mazda says this is completely normal and the mazda rep says its normal that was the end of that.

The Evo is knotchy as hell too, Ask perfworks on this fourm he'll tell ya the same thing about his Evo

I've got no complaints on my MSP, but then she's still just a baby =)

It's already been said, but the new car market is flooded right now 'cause manufacturers are pumping out units because of some deal where the workers are getting paid for the number of cars made which is changing like next year I believe, where they will go back to a standard hourly paycheck (or something like that, caught that news in passing). This means new cars are getting rebates like mad to get rid of all of them, and used car prices are totally bombing out.

Each car owner is going to have their own experience with their own car. Personally I find the shifter and seat position in the MSP perfect. I enjoy it's agility and nimbleness, it's zip, and the creature comforts are not only fabulously comfy but every single person I've had in my car so far absolutely loves it and can't believe it came stock like that. It's the perfect car choice for a guy like me in every way. As much as I like it, I'm sure there are others who won't, who would rather have a srt4 or something, and that's fine for them. It's a big world with lots of roads to drive on... there should be plenty of room for all of us, no matter what we scoot around in :D

Not to threadjack but this statement is just not true:
autox sorry to dissapoint you but i dont think u did the right research .. msp wasnt really winning all the comparos of sport sedans .. i think it was the focus svt and later the neon srt .. i say **** the neon but the svt could have been a good choice
I read just about every comparo that included the MSP while doing my research on the car, and it consistenly beat Focus SVT (might've lost once) and all the other sport compacts other then the SRT-4. I don't want to trol, such misinformation tends to annoy me.

honestly i purchased my msp to commute to work everyday in....but i still wanted power, style and comforts,.....i got all that and more with my msp, i paided 17k for it so im not complaining....in 3 years ill sell it and get another car, til then, im gonna enjoy it and pay off the loan asap :)

I'm gunna have to go with Dex a bit on this one, lots of whining. Waa waa I want the shinny new toy now.

I'll tell you one thing you won't like.....replacing the clutch in that EVO.

I LOVE my MSP and I paid 18k for God's sake. But I got a kick ass car for 18k. What the hell would I have bought? I got nice paint, wheels, chrome muffler, kick ass radio, cornering, wing, TURBO, cool seats, sweet goodies inside

Autox's explination and complaints seem vauge to me......and I'll tell ya another thing, Morande Mazda in CT had almost every color in the book when I bought mine, Orange, Titainium, 2 blue and 2 yellow and I think a silver......guess what THEY ARE ALL GONE but the yellow's. They ARE selling.

Like people have been saying, sell it privately(sp) and go buy what you want.

Even though I rip on the Evo, I would totally take one at invoice.

That or just keep and learn next time that tuned cars from the factory are prone to the same problems as tuned cars aftermarket
Truer words could not be spoken....I wish more people realized this...the nice thing is that it's under warranty.

uhm i'm i'm trying to sell my car because of reliablity. Its the engine/tranny i dont like. The handling, build quality are all above average.

Autox MSP....the way I look at it, in the end YOU are the one that has to be happy - your shelling out for the 2nd most expensive thing you'll ever buy, next to a house. If YOU are not happy w/ it, then you should move to another ride. As for selling it, the best way is to sell it yourself (I recommend www.Cars.com or www.Autotrader.com)...that's the most $$ you're gonna get for it, although you'll never get back what you put in. It's the major problem w/ buying a new car.

IMHO, I love the car, and the problems I've had are small potatoes compared to some of my previous cars. Plus, I've got 'til 70,000 miles for Mazda to fix my s*** for me (extended warranty).

I wish you the best of luck, and hope that in the end, you end up w/ something that you are happy with in every aspect...just don't rush into anything. Good Luck!
