Traded my 08 Mazdaspeed 3 in this past weekend

man i was looking at srt6's on ebay the other day...they had a convert model with less than 2k miles on it...was only at 16 grand. if someone got it for that price what a steal!

and yes we need pics asap and get that thing to the track i want to see what it can do.

Yeah the prices on these things are ridiculous! I bought one for my wife but not the SRT- a Limited Roadster (black with rust colored leather interior). Only had 12k on the odo as well and garage kept...immaculate condition, not a single scratch. Checked Chrysler's website and Roadsters start over 40k. We pick ours up for 16,500.
roadster_debadged.jpg

I really wanted to get another SRT but their weren't any available in a 100 mile radius at the time- plus they are about 8k more expensive in roadster trim (w/ similar miles).

I'd love to share pics of mine but right now it's dirty as sin and it's not even sporting it's stock SRT-6 rims. I bought a set of standard Limited wheels off ebay for $250! They are scratched to h*ll but I'm using them for my winter set up.

I'll try and take some pics to share- but keep in mind there are NO aesthetic mods whatsoever. I plan to keep it that way- I'm more interested in the "go" rather than the "show". Besides it's got about 4-5 dings and various light scratches throughout the body and a front bumper cover who's bottom is dimpled from the previous owner hitting a parking curb. I'm border-line obsessive compulsive so these existing blemishes keep me away from doing anything aesthetic. I'd want the finish ding free and clear of scratches before I invest in wheels, tint, etc. The one thing I AM doing is installing the SRT-6 fender badges. They had them OEM on the 06 SRT-6's (all 200 of them sold in America).

If you are truly interested in picking one up you WON'T be disappointed. I'm a previous STi owner myself. I know it's crazy to say but despite it only being RWD and Automatic it's more fun than my Cobb Stage 2 '05 STi was...and I LOVED that car! On the highway it pulls harder than anything I've ever driven or driven in. 50-100 is a blink, and it keeps pulling! I don't know if your STi is set up differently but mine felt to lose steam above 85-90.

PS Looking forward to the Tune next. It should squeeze the most amount of HP for the mods I did thus far. I'm determined to hit 11's in spring. I'll be sure to post videos and slips regardless of the actual outcome at the track.

sounds like a blast! Someday, I too will have a fast car.

Had to check your profile to see what you drive. I used to have a P5, thus the user name from 2002. ;) Great little car, I actually miss it- would make a really great DD right now. PS We have other things in common- Graphic Design and are Christians. Very cool.

Excellent. Now all I need is a fast car and then we can be like brothers! :)

I love my P5 most of the time, then there are times when I have to merge on the highway quickly and I curse the day it was manufactured!

No offense but I've read your posts and for some reason I'm having a hard time understanding you.
(1st) you say you didn't like the MS3 because of the 3rd gear issues, which is understandable.
2nd) Why in the heck would you trade your MS3 for 17K could of easily traded it for 19-20k elsewhere with that amount of low miles.
(3rd) how do you go from a STi-MS3 to a SRT6
(4th) You went from a sedan/5door hatch to a 2seater....could understand if it was a S2K,350Z,Vette for that matter.
(5th) If you were looking for a Monster street car, you picked the wrong car(chair)
(6th) It's you're money and your choice, I'm just trying to justify how someone can do that. That's like going from Eva Longoria yet she can't nuke Your corndog, to Christina Ricci because she can give you a quickie a lot faster than Eva.....lol

I can build a 12.1-12.4 second for LESS than the price it is to buy a 2005-newer S2k.

This is what i don't understand about you..........
I can buy a used Toyota MR-2 and put about 10grand and smoke 12-sec car's. What's you're point!!(dunno)

i think the cars awesome man. ive never in my life seen a srt crossfire. i didnt know they existed. i never liked the look of them much but after reading this thread i could see the look growing on me and wow you cant beat that price for the performance and a amg motor. the auto though i dont know if i could get used to but i just thought id throw some positive support since there seems to be so many haters. get us some pics and vid for sure. whats the interior look like.

*sigh* here we go again
(1st)- there were things I didn't like about the MS3 however by and large I enjoyed the car and wont hesitate to pick up another one in the future to use as a daily driver

(2nd)- I tried at a few dealers- no one was willing to give KBB used pricing on trades- they ended up selling it for the used trade in value to a new member here as a matter of fact (ie much lower than used market value).

(3rd) Because I didn't go from STI to MS3 to SRT-6. I actually traded my STi for a Honda Element. :) I bought a house back in 07 so, at the time, the mortgage and STi payments/insurance were too much. I had an S2k too and enjoyed it but ultimately traded it for a Hummer H3- which is now my DD and vehicle I use for my business. I needed something that could drive in all weather and large enough to carry all my video production gear.

(4th)- You said: "You went from a sedan/5door hatch to a 2seater....could understand if it was a S2K,350Z,Vette for that matter. Why would you understand if it were an S2k, 350z, or Vette? Because you personally like those cars more? Well... I personally like the SRT-6 better. It's quicker than the Honda and Nissan stock vs. stock and with the two bolt ons it's quite a bit faster than a C6 vette- at a lower price tag than all of them (including my mods).

(5th) I wasn't looking for a "monster" street car from the MS3- however something a little closer to my previous STi would have been nice. The performance gains from Cobbs kit was devastating to me- I bought the car about a year before Cobb released it's AP for it with specific anticipation for it. Additionally FWD cars are far from the best monster street cars- It has major traction problems with stock power levels yet alone adding aftermarket power. When I traded my MS3 in it wasn't being used as a DD. I wanted a fun fast car that was easy to make MUCH faster. The SRT-6 fits those categories. 19k for the car- 3k in basic bolt ons= a 22k car which is a relatively reliable daily driver that is capable of pulling 11.9's on street tires and pump gas (and no nitrous).

(6th) You said: "It's you're money and your choice,--- well there you go then, you answered you own question.

"I'm just trying to justify how someone can do that."--- huh? See above quote. lol

"That's like going from Eva Longoria yet she can't nuke Your corndog, to Christina Ricci because she can give you a quickie a lot faster than Eva.....lol"--- lol, that's quite possibly the most flawed analogy I've ever seen. You are analogizing the Speed3 to Eva and SRT-6 to Ricci?! I think it's the other way around- the SRT-6 is a 45k car which is actually a Mercedes AMG vehicle. (screwy)

"This is what i don't understand about you..........

I don't want a major project. Making the MR-2 or any other older cheap vehicle "smoke 12-sec cars" is a huge undertaking. My car is whisper quiet w/ stock exhaust, stock interior, runs on street tires, and pump gas yet can smoke the likes of Challenger SRT-8's, Audi R8s, and C6 LS3 Vettes- what's not to love? ;) The mods I did can be done in few hours on a weekend in a friend's garage with limited mechanical knowledge. Try that with your 12-sec.-car- beating MR2. (hippy)

I knew about them because, when I owned my STi, I read in the back of Car & Driver (in the performance listings) that the Crossfire was a bit faster than my STi stock for stock! I was amazed. However at the time I thought it was the normal Crossfire. I wasn't aware of an SRT-6 version either. lol

i never liked the look of them much but after reading this thread i could see the look growing on me and wow you cant beat that price for the performance and a amg motor.
I always liked certain angles of it. Profile- for sure, love the aggressive stock wheel setup (18's/19's). I like the rear w/ center exiting exhaust as well. However was never fond of the Chysler styling in the front complete with grill and hood strakes. Still don't like it but it's not as appalling as before. lol

the auto though i dont know if i could get used to
That was the biggest negative about the car at first. However now I love it! There is nothing worse than a slow auto car- however a really fast one is fun and VERY easy to drive fast. No more missed shifts and non-existent 3rd gears!

but i just thought id throw some positive support since there seems to be so many haters.
Ah, no sweat. Most of it can be chalked to to one of three things: brand loyalty, jealousy, or ignorance. Most of them will change their tune if they see me at the track. (first)

get us some pics and vid for sure. whats the interior look like.
Will do- right now there is close to 10 inches of snow on it. (rant)

UPDATE: I FINALLY GOT TO RUN IT IN THE 1/4 TONIGHT-

I only have two mods done so far (CAI and Pulley) no tune yet. Additionally I'm currently running Crossfire Limited rims w/ Eagle F1 All-Season tires (my winter setup).

The night was very cold (38-37 degrees) and on top of that the track had cones in the middle of the staging area causing you to start in the hole to one of the far edges of the track, outside of the standard "groove". Needless to say traction was a huge problem, possibly because of "where" we were forcing us to line up at the track- possibly because of the low temps (cold track)- and possibly because of the "All"-season tires. Though I'd have to assume it's a little bit of each coupled with an inexperienced driver (me). :D

Anyway here's what I got-

FIRST RUN: Took off out of the hole at full throttle, big no no apparently- fishtailed the whole way through my 60ft. I did however beat the fox-body Mustang I was pitted against. lol Terrible times.
60ft- 2.327
1/4- 13.8
MPH- 107.39
ouch!!!

SECOND RUN: Took off at partial throttle before I pinned the pedal. It felt like much less slippage however the 60ft wasn't much better. (I lost to a GTO w/ nitrous by .4 sec)
60ft- 2.156
1/4- 12.95
MPH- 108.94

THIRD RUN (final): Had to cut it short with my 3rd run because my wife was frozen solid spectating in the crowd. She sent me some not so nice reminders via text message how cold she was. lol I felt like I got out of the hole about as good (if that's what you want to call it) as the second run but got a better time but slower trap. (I got smoked by a late-model firebird by 7/10ths who trapped at 116)
60ft- ???? (didn't record for the left lane)
1/4- 12.82
MPH- 107.91

Overall I'm disappointed but I had to keep in mind if I'm using Chris (who usually runs 11.9) as a control/reference he was having trouble hooking up and was seeing less than stellar trap speeds as well. However he had 1-day old summer tires he just got installed on his. The combination of the cold-weather vs summer tires, and the fact they were brand new (not even broken in) may of had something to do with it.

Anyway I'm hoping with a warmer track and summer tires I can pull a 12.7-12.5 with the CAI and ASP Pulley. I'll probably finally get around to getting a tune for it before I run it again- hopefully then I'll see low 12's. Then maybe manis, h/e upgrade, and another tune to get me into the 11-second-club. Though that may be wishful thinking. Either way, even though my times weren't stellar- it was my first time running a car at a track in over 10 years, and I still had fun regardless. If it wasn't as cold and I had unlimited times I probably would have ran it 10x to get the launch mechanics down right.

PS I saw one Black MS3 at the track (Atco NJ) tonight- I wonder if it was someone here. I didn't see him run, unfortunately.

Yeah... that's a great time. Thing is... it's an automatic right? Don't take this the wrong way but... where's the fun in that? I remember the first time I went to the track... it was pathetic. My time was like 18... thought I could shift but clearly I was wrong. But with practice, I got it down to where all the pubs had it. (Sentra SE-R for what it's worth) Now if the car had been automatic... s***... I guess I would've just punched it and waited for the 14-15 seconds to go by. That said... 12.8 is ridiculous! congrats

The fun is that you get to see how fast your car can get down the track. If I had a fast automatic, I'd take it to the drag strip too.

Is it as involved as a stick? Probably not, but I'm sure it's still fun to blast down a drag strip legally.

True. I guess I was just pointing out the general lack of skill needed in taking an AT to the drag. Part of the 'fun' of going to the drag is challenging yourself to get the best time. How do you do this? Well, one of the way includes hitting every gear at the exact right time as quickly as possible. It's not as easy as it seems... especially when the pressure's on. But again, it's part of the fun. Otherwise... you're just hitting the gas and hanging on. Might as well be a passenger.

Sidenote: It's ironic how most people think a standard is faster than an automatic. Sure, if you know what you're doing! Otherwise, with virtually no margin for error with an automatic - the auto could be the faster option.

Are you kidding me? This thread is magical. It has brought all the idiots out of the wood work, people who aren't fans of cars but of their own emotional attachment and ego associated with cars. It's helping me make a list of people who aren't worth my time on here.

Dude comes on and says "I traded in my MS3 and I bought a car I really like and am happy with" and the response has ranged between "JUDAS!!!" and "slushbox lol" and "crysler lol." It's an amazing spectacle to watch.

In those respects, you have a good point.

I totally agree. I for one am a fan of cars. Fast, slow, manual, auto, mazda, chrysler whatever.
