Traded CX-7 for speed3

I traded my CX-7 GT for a speed3 tonight. I just couldn't take the terrible mileage anymore. The raw power difference is just awesome.

The speed3 only gets 1mpg more city and 4mpg highway. I'm guessing there was something else driving this purchase...because the loss you took trading in a fairly new car means you'll have to be driving the speed3 for like 5 years before you break even.

It would cost $1875/yr to drive the CX-7 15K @ $3/ga. It would only cost $1607 in the MS3. You save a whopping $268 a year...and that is assuming you get the best highway mileage in both vehicles. Seeing as most cars drop several thousand in value for just taking them off the lot, its going to take you several years to recoup your money...unless you drive like 30-50K a year in which case it will only take 2-3 years.

Thanks Captain Obvious...but is it really necessary to bust the guys balls? He is happy I am sure...so just drop it.(sssh)

Some people dont do the math...why the hell do you think hybrids are selling. Well, I guess there is piece of mind that you are helping to save the environment but...I don't think buying a MS3 falls into that category.

its called being penny wise, dollar stupid...

assuming he took a hit in his trade (and flipped upsidedown) any cost savings from the better gas mileage just went out the window.

on a car with the same engine no less, and still requires premium. If he came back and said he got a Mazda 3 Hatch, I could understand. But to make a sideways step isnt really justifying much.

... but @ the end of the day, its not my money :p.

Enjoy the car though!! Its an awesome little ride...

JEALOUS!!
Good luck with the Speed3, I wanted one but needed a car in september and I need the space..

Keep us updated!

personally I dont think he was bustin balls, he was just being honest.

the reality is that his stated reason for trading the CX-7 (gas mileage) isnt really going to get better with the lateral move to the MS3.

yea he wasnt bustin anyones balls, relax buddy. .. he shared his opinion about thegas mileage trade off, u want the forum to grow, let people talk

back on topic though, good luck with the new purchase.....seeing as how they're two separate types of vehicle I'm sure there was more than just mileage affecting your decision. Have fun and drive safe!

It all comes back to my original post "I'm guessing there was something else driving this purchase". The important thing for me is not allowing mis-information to continue.

07CopperGT's post obviously stated the gas milage as the issue with the CX-7 and I couldn't let others fall into any sort of mindset that a MS3 of all cars is a economical solution to that problem. It sure as hell is a more fun to drive car...but economical I think not...unless you want to compare it to the RX-8 or any full size SUV out there getting 20mpg or less.
