I have an 06' and was told that I cant tow with this car. The owners manual says I can carry about 1400 lbs in the car, why cant I tow 450#s?? Any suggestions? thanks ron.(dunno)

Dont tow with it...you will void your warranty. The AWD in this car is not designed for towing.

Nor is the suspension, chassis, trans, etc. Not saying it 'cant' be done, but that it shouldnt. Contrary to popular belief on "performance forums" but for the most part, engineers know what they are doing, so going against their recommendations is at your own will.

The scoop on trailering

Ok, so I talked to a local shop that installs hitches, etc. They said that Maxda/Ford does not want you towing because the limit of the weight carring capability of the car can easily be exceeded. The owners manual states that you can safely carry up to 1400#s inside of the car (that includes driver passengers, and cargo). If the trailer weight does not exceed the total "AND" if the tongue weight does not exceed about 50 lbs, then you are within the safety limits of the car. The problem arises when you put a hitch on the car and try to tow a 2500# boat or trailer, you are easily exceeding the max cargo weight. The car does not know the difference between towing 1400 lbs and carrying 1400lbs, except that the weight is not directly carried by the cars suspension, the engine, transmission and drive train could care less where the weight is located.(as long as it is within the limits).(idhitit)

Good luck explaining that to the mazda service guy when he tells you your warranty is history. Do not tow with a speed 6..you will be sorry.(deadhorse

I'm an engineer and I don't see any reason you couldn't tow #450's. (crazy)

But 450 lbs is the trailer, so... it seems pointless.

What is 450 lbs that you can't rent a truck to haul or just put in the car?

Ok, here's what I want to tow, my PWC and trailer both (together) weigh about 450 #s, and my jon boat and small trailer weigh actually a litttle less than that. So I agree, towing that weight will never make any difference to the car.The key is to not let the mazda guy at the dealer know I tow,, I only use the hitch to carry my mountain bike and nothing else. I have a plugin in wiring harness that I can remove when I need to.... so no tell-tale signs of towing...(protest)

An issue?

Sounds like you got an issue with it? If you do,(nana) that's your problem. I am doing it and I am towing with it. You do what you want to with your car, Ill do the same. thanks.

i like to find out also , not saying that im going to tow with my MS6. I would never but i wanna find out how you do and how your tranny took it !!!!
