Someone threw an egg at my car, and it left scratches on my rear door. (too bad I couldnt make a uturn, I would of killed those punks) So I decided to get some touch-up paint, well it doesnt really match.........

Does anyone else have touch-up paint that doesnt match the car or am I doing something wrong?

they probably dont need to be touched up, they need to be polished out.

where are you located? if your in the san diego area, i might be able to help you out.

pictures of the damage would also help as well.

its not the paint that is damaged its the clearcoat.

By scratches I mean, there is no paint, its pretty deep, you can see white spots which I guess would be the factory primer?

check out autopia.org

look in the regionals section, and see if you can find a detailer in your area that can help you out.

if you can get pictures i could help you out easier

ok... you've said this before and it is very inaccurate.

when an egg hits a car, the shell shatters and really chips the paint. my sunlight silver got egged and it chipped it easily in 2 spots. i'm seriously thinking about getting the panels resprayed. before i make my decision, i'm trying to find silver cars that have been resprayed and find out where the work was done if it's good. i haven't seen a perfect job yet.

i was in the same position you were man, it sucks. it CAN NOT be polished out. i tried to find someone to do the touch up work but i live in bakersfield and nobody knows what the **** they're doing. i'd be better off doing it myself. if i were to do the touch up route, i'll probably have a paint shop mix up some paint for me and try the langka method or sand/polish the touch up once dry.

definitely let me know how it works out man. i feel for you! :(

i say to check autopia out, because there are many professional detailers on tehre that deal with this kind of stuff all the time.

if you manage to get touch up paint thats matched correctly, they know how to apply it.

not all egg problems are the same. i dont know the extent of the damage. i suggest polishing it out, because chances are the egg didnt have time to adhere and ruin the clear. its possible for egg marks to be polished out if the clearcoat is only etched. and polishing is something thats easier, and much cheaper to do.

touch up paint will only conceal the mark, it will still be noticeable, if the area isnt wetsanded to polished out.

unfortunately in this case and yours the paint was chipped.

my information isnt innacurrate, it just doesnt apply to every situation

i've looked at about 20 cases of egged cars and in all 20 cases, the paint is chipped just like mine. polishing wont help this. i've also never heard of the egg actually adhering and ruining clear coat. that's what i was worried about at first but then i noticed the chips. the clear coat wasn't damaged anywhere other than where the egg shell impacts chipped the paint. autopia does have good information and i agree, you should probably look it over. however, check out langka as well. everything i read says "silver is the hardest color to match"

i'd suggest either langka or the wet sand polish method. :)

still not sure if i'm going to get my car resprayed on a few panels or not. :/

I'm going to have to say I agree w/ at least trying to polish the scratches out first. Most of the vandalism claims I've had dealing w/ shattered eggs result in only compromised clear coat, on occassion, I have see it go through. I agree w/ trying the cheapest route first, and if that doesn't work, you're only out a few bucks.

As for getting a few panels resprayed for a chip, it can be expensive to do it correctly. Keep in mind almost all components need be removed from the panel before clear is applied. for example, a door needs to have mouldings, door handle, belt moulding, appliques, claddings removed if so equipped.

Best of luck to both of you. I personally feel the refinish on our cars is thin and weak, it's my only dissatisfaction I have with the car

i agree completely... polish out the scratches. but you can't polish out chips.

the problem with my flaws is that, there are tons of very very tiny chips and just a few bigger/more noticable ones. i'm unsure how to go about even touching them up.

i know of 4 cars personally that have been egged and all 4 of them were left with more than a dozen chips as a result. sure, there are scratches too but that's the least of the concern.

good luck man, i really hope you get it fixed to your satisfaction. :)
