This custom bs sri causes lots of problems. When my gas light came on my cel also went on. When i used to get on it i see smoke coming out of the car. Now is back to stock and no problems at all. But the power i gained was amzing guys. I'm gonna just buy the speed3 cai and do it right.

Probably not a bad idea............ Who puts this "custom" crap in their cars anyways?

they all work just fine, people spend to much time and money on intake swapping. just keep what you have. I just like the way sri look better.

i was having issues with extreme cold, the standback and my cia, I put the stock air box back on and the problem dissapeared. So i'm thinking that imples that if i get cp-e intake that will solve the extreme cold issue? cuase they have a tiny maf houseing...??

i'm going to guess yes because the MS CAI screws up the AFR and runs you a bit lean. it would make sense that when it's extremely cold out, this may affect you JUST enough to cause a CEL.

just an educated guess, of course, but if switching back to stock air fixed your problems, then the AFR is the first thing i would suspect.

EDIT:

as far as i know, the CP-E CAI and cobb SRI both maintain stock AFR.

your right about the too lean at idle, but also if it drops below freezing and i start the car it dies? only with the standback attatched and the mazdaspeed cia attatched, with the stock air box on it doesn't die if its below freezing in the morning...or with the standback dettatched and the ms cia attatched it won't die its a combination of the 2

wrong, they change it to. they just are smaller maf housing there for letting less air past the mass than the ms intake. the ms intake gives such big gains on a stock car because it leans it out. the intake and exhaust they offer were meant to be used alone and work together nicely. leaning the car out a bit and flowing a little more air. The car wakes up with these two mods. but once you go further the ms intake probably will cause some lean issues.

thats the only reason i see for getting rid of the ms intake
if you take your mod level farther than intake and exhaust

read my post above about below freezing... the car dies in the morning if its below freezing and the standback and the ms cia are attatched, with either detatched this does not happen so I was assumeing if I got the cp-e intake it would fix the problem since the stck airbox fixes the problem, thus selling my ms cia would be logical, i guess....??

wait...they change the AFR too? i thought that cobb and CP-E built their intakes so that the MAF readings maintained its correctness? i mean, more air flows, but at least the engine knows exactly how much is actually flowing, right?

I don't know if you did this following my custom CAI "how to", but pretty much everybody that has done a custom SRI, had some kind of problem.

I haven't heard of anybody having problems with my set up, unless they didn't post it. Mine has been in the car since May 07, no problems at all.

wow...i'm really surprised that you haven't had issues. the main complaint is that the spectre MAF housing screws up the MAF's readings and confuses the car (CEL city!).

The spectre maf is the same ID as a ms cai. And yes, some people had cel's on their ms3 with the SRI. Some of them posted on my "how to" section.

I have not heard of people having issues with the cai. If somebody is, please post.
